Ran out and purchased the G1 today, was excited has I have been waiting for T-Mobile bring a phone like this out. Checked out some sites last night everything looks good…. Well Purchased the Phone, they placed my Sim card in and I have a gmail account so I thought this was going to be so easy.
Let me just say here it is 10:37 PM and the phone still is not working, I can place my gmail info in, then enter the strange word for protection and then……. I get a data error, either the SIM card or something with Google Network it tells me. Back to store and well I finally talked them into giving me a new Sim card and….. it still doesn’t work… They tell me it could take 48 hours for the Data plan to show up on my account. But when we look at the computer is shows it active and I am being charged for it as of today…. so I want my service… I also called customer service and got to a level 2 in tech and we tried changing the apn, tried resetting, take battery out… OPen the case… By the way what a pain in the as* to take the back off this thing. BUt after being on the phone with Tech for and hour… still no service and she told me to go back to the store… I will give them until tomorrow night, but if it isn’t working by 5 PM back to the store I go for either a New Phone or my money back… I will repost after I have better news maybe.

I like the G1 but the battery life sucks! It last about 9 hours on stand by including about 1.5 hours of talk time. Anyone know how to make the battery last longer?

October 24th, 2008 at 4:38 am
Ok seems very weird that you can’t sign up or activate your phone, did you have a gmail account to begin with, my worked fine even though i don’t even have data plan selected on my account yet, work perfectly fine over wifi, sound like you are paid by Microsoft or Nokia, to create blackpr, or maybe it was teh whole idea behind that site???
Anyway there is some issues with it, as it’s a new platform, and the first device of it’s kind, i hope sites like that will show the google and android developers the issues with the phone and it’s os, so it could be fixed faster. As to the problems i came across, is the battery life is kind of short, it helped to turn of gps locator, and dimm the screen a bit, also turned of 3g for longer battery life …
and oscar what are you considering stand by, was it screen of , or were you using the net or playing games? just curios …
I’ve heard charging the battery overnight like you really suppose to do helps with expanding the battery capasity, haven’t checkedit thous as i’ve prety much start using it as soon as i’ve got it …
It does crash sometimes, mostly when use with a lot of of pps, and go from one to another, but nothing reaally serious so far, only 5-10 seconds down time with some error message …

My GPHONE lasted less than 2 days.
I was in the middle of a call today, and bam. i get DCed.
I look at my screen, its blank.
I press buttons, nothing happen.
i pulled out battery and reinsert and it booted up.
BUT it said: TMOBILE: NO SERVICE.
The No service part wasnt the weird part.
weird part was it wasnt centered and it was in the lower rigth hand corner with most of the stuff cut off.
then i see my home screen.
resolution is not fit to screen and there was static lines on the right hand side.
i slide my screen open and close for a few times and the screen turned black.
The screen is on, but nothing shows.
i try calling my phone. rings for 4 times then goes to Voicemail from the callers side.
phone doesnt ring.
i took some photos with my friend’s phone, so i’ll post them up when i receive them.
i called Tmobile to get a hard reset..
tried and failed multiple times.
Tmobile said, we will ship u another phone. but u wont get it until mid november.
or you can go to tmobile store and swap it out… IF they even have one in stock.
a $300 dollar phone and software made by one of hte highest tech companies.. and i get is a piece of shi* phone that lasted less than 2 days.
not to mention the battery doesnt even last one whole day 10 AM - 7 PM with brightness set at 20% and not even constant calls.

October 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
well just got my G1 phone and it lasted approximately 4 and a half hours before I lost the call i was on and never was able to keep a connection to the tmobile system. I have been hypinh this phone since septemeber 23rd and was extremely haqppy to recieve it in the4 mail with the premail offer but now i am very dissapointed especially since the exchanges will not even be able to be issued until november 3rd, you call that customer servince? for a company that supposedly prides itself on taking care of their customers why are they leaving this group of prosumers up s**tscreek? doesnt make much sense. i feel cheated

October 27th, 2008 at 5:31 am
Hello everyone i was playing with the phone for like 1hr i fall in love with it… really… but one thing the BATTERY Doesnt last.. plus when i’m using the phone it gets hot, like unconfortable hot… but beside that.. that phone is better then an Iphone (i have one iphone) so i will stick with the g1 but hopefully the heating problem goes away… *** if anybody knows about this issues the phone heating up. let me know!!!
October 27th, 2008 at 6:57 am
i love it so far. hopefully this stuff doesnt happen. but i do have two complaints. one, battery life.. horrible. I discovered if I make the screen brightness to like 20 percent or something and then make the screen time out like one min, it last alot longer than havin full brightness on the screen and a wait of ten min before screen time out.
another thing, i was in the middle of a very important convo via text. and it all of asuden would keep saying error message not sent evvvverytime i tired to sendone. I tried everything. and then after restarting my phone it worked. but honestly.. lame. and some guy that pre ordered his came into the tmobile store when I was in there before they were released with the same problem.
October 27th, 2008 at 11:09 am
Hi guys,
Got my G1, quite happy with it, but I do have a few complaints
At first the GPS wasn’t working, this fixed it -
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1173104-g1_gps_not_working
The second one is the short battery life, I met goldfish that have longer memory then the G1’s battery life…
It’s ridiculous, I hope they’ll recall the battery or something like that.
The phone is cool and I’m really enjoying it, if they will fix the battery it will be a super phone.
Ciao,
Jessica.

Yes, T-mobile has got to do something about the battery life on this thing. I was even thinking about buying another one.
Another problem I just came across is a took about 60 pictures yesterday and I can’t bring half of them up, they just show an error sign. When I tried to dump them on my computer, it just freezes up.
T-Mobile had no answers for me.
October 27th, 2008 at 10:25 pm
I bought the G1 the day after it came out and the internet was working fine the first few hours but ever since then the internet’s not working, except for Gmail. Also the battery life sucks.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:21 pm
When I get some text mess. From a certain person who has cricket, when I go to open it …. it says the application messaging (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly please try again later

Does any one have problems with the blue tooth? How do you send a mp3 to the G1? The other device is sending it but g1 does not work at all
October 29th, 2008 at 5:08 am
Hello all,
Got the G1 for bothe me and my wife, and we both love it. Problems:
-battery life… But yoy can lower the brightness, set the screen timeout to 1 or 2 minutes, turn off the GPS (which doesn’t need to be on all the time anyway, and saves a lot of battery life) and make sure it’s fully charged before you use it.
-Also, every now and then the phone wont hang up! I cant hit the red hang up button, press menu and go to end call or even hold the hang up button and turn off the phone! after about 2 or 3 minutes (which I pay for!!!) the call will end.
-The screen isn’t very responsive at times, which is only a problem when playing games really; but that may have something to do with the screen protector.
-The screen will freeze every now and then when i end a call or leave an app, but not for too long.
-The internet is low and freezes up at times.
-The GPS doesn’t seem to pinpoint my exact location, it’s off by like 5 -8 miles.
Other than that the phone is great, I like it WAY more than the iphone, although I wish it had a standard headphone jack. We both had blackberry pearls and this is much better. We’ll see what the second gen models do. G2’s maybe?

October 30th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Hi All
This is a really piece of work that the company brought out. Looks like an implementation upgrade that they rushed out without considering the hardware stats. Looks like the testing dept.didn’t do their job, whic is common in the IT world. Nevertheless, I really enjoy this phone. it took me about 2 hours to decipher the functions. The had a couple of The first one is the alarm clock, it worked great until I install the ringer apps from the green basket, after that I had to shut down and remove the battery. Then the camera comes on when I press the tools icon, it happend 2x, couldn’t figure that one out. Then the SDcard issue, “no SDCARD Found” well, I had to format the card from my pc and that resolved it. Other than that. Just navigating through the phone is a challenge.
October 31st, 2008 at 6:00 am
Well I got my phone on the 22nd, transferred my number over from another carrier and after I got that sorted out the phone was working great! Well, every now and then I had trouble when entering the unlock pattern, seems like the touch screen just became too sensitive. A quick reboot fixed that issue, then today after coming home and plugging the phone int get it recharged, I noticed the touchscreen stopped responding, the track ball works but not the touch screen. Even rebooting with the power cable plugged in doesn’t help. If I reboot with the power unplugged, then it works fine but you can’t use these phones without recharging them a couple of times a day. and it sure helps to be able to use it while it’s still recharging. I also notice that the bottom of the phone seems to be running “hot” so I suspect that I have a hardware problem. I’m taking it back to the store tomorrow and try and get it swapped out.

John, who posted “October 23rd, 2008 at 5:44 am” complaint about spending hours with phone techs, and SIM card issues, is almost exactly my experience. A real pain in the ass and I am massively pissed at this moment. I think I turned on and off the phone about 50 times, took out the SIM card a good 10 times, switched out the SIM back and forth from my old phone and my new phone…To make it all worse I deactivated my old SIM card and so now I have no service at all.

Hey guys.
Have had my G1 for 2 days now. Its on a plan with one other G1. My EDGE network gets little to no connectivity. WiFi works, but I cant view pages or vids or even the market on the EDGE. It seems to pull emails and has worked once or twice but not for long.
My roomates EDGE on his G1 works fine. He can do all the things I mentioned. HELP!
Im not in a 3G area but am in the EDGE.
BTW, if you dont want your battery to die, dont have your WiFi, EDGE, 3G, and GPS on at once. This kills the battery life. Also, when a phone does not have signal, it takes alot of power trying to find a signal.
October 31st, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Email me at sechlerm@gmail.com if you find a solution to this problem please.
Chances are I will not be able to check this website everyday.
Thank You.
(Talked to PDA Rep, and it was no help, factory reset and all)

Update on my post above:
T-mobile are a bunch of scumbags. I spent an hour at a local T-Mobile store, they were clueless. They had to call whereever they call, they eventually had me talk to the guy on the other end of the phone. The guy told me they would send me a new phone but I had to go and get it sent back to their return department, on my dime, and then as soon as I had a tracking# they would grant me the very special privilege of sending me a functioning phone…I nearly blew a gasket and I made it clear to everyone in the Santa Monica T-mobile store that I was pissed off.
They had me on the phone for 2 hours, and then an hour in the store, and then they tell me I had to go to another (unaffiliated) shipping store to get a tracking#???…I told them they should send me the phone and with it send me a return envelope to return their defective POS phone…They refused, I ended my relationship with T-mobile and I went to ATT and got the newest I-Phone.

I got my g1 yesterday, and 20 minutes after getting i realized that when the phone screenlocks itself, I couldn’t use the touchscreen. i had to turn phone off and then on to get it to use screen, but every time it locks itself, bam, I can’t use it. My brother has got his phone zero problems. I spent 3 hrs trying to fix it. 3 calls to TMobile customer service and then, they say that they have to send me a new phone. Only problem is that I have to wait 10 days. Then when I complain that I pre-ordered this phone and have to wait more time to get a new phone (because I have to wait till they ship everyone who ordered one before yesterday when I called), they tell me sorry there is nothing else I can do. I finally got a superviser on the phone after 45 mins of my 3rd call and they gave me a $25 dollar credit. Thats it. They wouldn’t even overnight me the phone when they got it.
I have been with TMobile since 99 and this is how they treat their customers.
The only thing that they had me do to try to fix this problem is to reset the phone to the factory settings. I just pulled the phone out of the box, I hadn’t even put phone #s on the phone, come on this is what their Tech Support is, reset the phone, ok that didn’t work, send a new phone, but hey you have to wait 2 weeks.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this issue?
November 2nd, 2008 at 5:14 am
Got my G1 four days ago. twenty minutes after turning it on with a full battery, it went dead (not the battery, the phone). tried pushing the red power button didn’t work; called cust service and they tried a hard reset, didn’t work either; took the battery out and replaced it, it worked for… 3 hours then turned itself off again and wouldn’t come back on.
When it was on, however, I kept losing the signal while I was conversating on the phone with a patient. Level 2 tech at cust serv said that issue has never happened before and can’t advise me on what to do except have them send me another phone which, as I’m told, could take up to two weeks… funny! I told them I bought it at the store down the street and was told to take it in for an exchange, but I’m so fed up & frustrated with this piece of shyt, I just want my money back.
On top of everything else, 1: who’s idea was it to put the bulky mechanism on the right side of the keyboard? 2: why do I almost burn my right hand when I do try to type (that thing gets HOT)? 3: Why must I adjust everything in my phone to get a longer battery life when they should have just created the latter in the first place? and 4: I was in a car accident today and needed to call 911 but my phone (first) couldn’t find a signal, and when it did (second) gave me the message that the server was too busy and couldn’t not place the call… in the middle of NYC!!!
I’m seeing a trend… T-Mobile puts out the G1 and it sucks for the most part because the creators didn’t take the time to work out the bugs. On top of that customer service can’t give you any answers when you do call in with a problem. I’m tired of hearing “I’m Sorry” everytime I have to call in (which is more in the past four days than my 10 years with tmobile). And with the insert of a new phone that SUCKS, their customer service has begun to SUCK too!! I think they’re catching up with Sprint’s piss poor customer service tactics.
Needless to say, I’m going back to my old phone. The Pearl may suck too but at least it’s better than the G1.
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:53 pm
I received my phone in the mail and all of the sudden when i close my slider down I get this messege that pops up.. “pq8yt19dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd” and it goes on until nomore D’s can fit. I asked my boyfriend about it because he knows alot about eletronics. He advised me that all phones have it so I should worry about it.. But why should’nt I worry about a phone that i spent hundreds on. What should i do?
November 3rd, 2008 at 2:28 am
Well it certainly is a mixed bag of comments here. I feel lucky my phone works. And it works real well. I guess since this blog IS called GPhone Problems I should have expected some negative experiences being reported. LOL! Anyway I can put in a good word if you all don’t mind. My phone works, works well, and I have not had to call customer service.
Admin Says: Please pardon our skepticism, but you do SELL G1s, do you not?
November 3rd, 2008 at 4:01 am
I love the phone and all the lil widgets you can install. The battery however sucks sooo bad. but im sure soon you will be able to buy better ones.
MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS MMS. OMFG i was on the phone with t mo last night for about an hour and a half trying to get this to work. I cannot send picture messages. I can recieve them and i can send my seld picture messages but thats it. And for that matter i still havent figured out how the hell to save pictures from a MMS. The only other thing that i dont really like is that i have all the info on my sd card broken down into separate folders. Now when i go to view pictures it throws them all together, for instance when locating a picture to add as an icon or when choosing a picture to put into a message. There are kinks that need ironing ASAP.
November 3rd, 2008 at 5:29 am
iv had the phone for 4 days and iv had two big issues, the phone worked fine for 4 days then all the sudden it doesnt recognize when the keyboard is open so i cant send text messages. it does recognize it sometimes but for the most part it doesnt. and sometimes when i try to call someone right after i hit send it automatically ends. any ideas ?
November 3rd, 2008 at 6:00 pm
I have only had the phone for 4 days and it SUCKS!! I am very disappointed because they made so much hype about how great the phone was suppose to be and it certainly is not what they promised. 1st of all the 3G is not due to be in the KCMO area until the end of the year, but the Edge is suppose to work fine… NOT! Every day I am unable to get a network connection and like many of you have already posted, the CS dept. does not have a clue, level 1 or 2. You get the same thing, “take the battery out, then the sim card, power down, power up, check the data plan”. The list goes on and on meanwhile you are stuck paying for a data plan that does not work and no ETA on when it will. After calling into the CS for approx. 10-15 times in 4 days they finally decided to open up a trouble tkt but it could take up to 4-6 days and no they will not call me with the results they find. The worst thing about this is I ordered one for my daughter for her birthday and it’s on it’s way, so now we will have 2 phones that SUCK. What a ripp off!
November 3rd, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Ok so I was super pumped when T-mobile came out with this phone. I have been a devoted t-mobile customer for the past 8 years. My husband is with sprint and has the instinct. I text alot so I wanted a touchscreen with full qwerty. THought they had answered my prayers. well I prebought and got it the 21st. Love the hell out of the phone, then the honeymoon period wore off.
the darn sd card is never available. I set personalized ringtones and it has to be on the sd card, so when the sd card decides it isnt going to be available I never heard the calls, it doesnt ring at all. so I changed to just a default ringtone for everyone.
called tmobile, tried 2 other sd cards. nope all the same crap. it is available when it wants to be. t mobile is no help. they refuse to hear that it is the phone not the damn sd card. so they are sending an sd card that isnt going to work either. nice cust service.
phone is great in theory, its a little bulkier than i thought but I LOVE the os. great platform, but they should have tested better.
November 4th, 2008 at 1:35 am
well i got the G1 a week ago and i found a couple of problems first off no video recording??? WTF then i restarted my phone and it started to lag WTF again also alot of times i cant get on internet or youtube cuz there is no network connection WTF…after that i leave phone on stanby for 8 hours and bam i lose 40% power WTF!!! if u want some advice to save power though turn screen brightness to less then 50% turn off wifi when not needed turn off 3G when not needed turn bluetooth off when not needed if you dont touch your phone much in the day it should last you for like 16 hours MAX which i find really retarted…also u dont want to leave your phone charged when its at full power so i dont recommend charging at night charge every so often hope this helps

November 4th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
My G1 shutsoff when I open up the keyboard! What should I do?
Admin - Umm, turn it back on?
November 5th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Initially, my phone was laggy, and would sometimes refuse to rotate when I was IMing or TXTing. Now, my screen won’t rotate at all - ever - from any screen. This also stops me from being able to enter any text into text messages or IMs.
And yes, battery is short.
I think what they really need to create is a “task manager” so that you can quit programs, as opposed to just “minimizing” them - which i suspect happens currently when you back out or hit home out of programs.
But otherwise, its a really awesome concept phone.

I’ve had the phone for a week now any one else notice how yahoo or aim msgers will not stay connected? MY PHONE KEEPS STUCK ON THAT STARTING MENU THAT BLINKS WITH THE ANDROID LOGO…. IT STARTED TODAY… I WILL TAKE THE PHONE TO THE STORE TODAY. I RESTARTED THE PHONE, TOOK OUT THE BATTERY AND IT STILL DOES THE SAME… IT SUCKS HAHAHHAHA
November 6th, 2008 at 8:37 am
I purchased two G1 phones at the same time. One black and one brown. After we started up the phones and go through the initial setup process, etc. The phone worked fine. Over time, I noticed the battery life of the Black phone was worst than that of the Brown. (identical settings and usage). Spoke to customer service and they will send a new phone, just have to be patient due to high demand. (not an issue)
I also noticed that the screen of the Black one started to squeak or creek when opening thescreen. The Brown one didnt squeak however. I suspect it may be the different materials used to create the different colours.
When pairing the phone via bluetooth to my vehicle, it was noticed that the phone doesnt provide a notification of incoming messages over the vehicle speakers. A contradiction to my previous phone, an HTC Dash.
Im having an open mind about the phone however. As seen in the past with countless products, NOTHING IS PERFECT and these glitches will be worked out and worked out easy because of the OPEN SOURCE plateform of ANDROID. People need to be patient and satisfied.
Before the phone was release, everyone said how ugly the phone was and other ideas of menutia. My opinion is that you can give people what they want and SOMEONE will find a problem with it. This phone has the ability to do much more than ANY other phone created, including the iPhone. Do we also want the phone to bake bread and make coffee as well? Be realistic. Consumers need to be patient and appreciate that people are working delegantly on making this NEW product completely functional.
People can say all they want about how the phone doesnt work and so forth, but I can assure you that if someone had to search for something on the internet, they will efforlessly and mindlessly type in GOOGLE. Google has provided innovative products and services that many of us have come to love and cant live without. These things that we covet didnt happen over night and worked after significant testing and problem solving. If you dont believe what I am saying, please check the stock value of Google when they first started compared to now. Maybe you should ask the CEO’s of google themselves, opps my bad, please wait till their PRIVATE JET lands.
All things said, we as consumers need to be patient as Tmobile, Google and HTC work these problems out.
In the meantime, check the Android Maker and download a program to pass the time.
Have fun with G1
Paul

Okay, I am having many problems with my phone but desperately want to like this one. I upgraded from my Blackberry Pearl and am seriously missing it so hope that my complaints are just due to the change over.
I have the same problem Kate does. My memory card isn’t being recognized at times. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. So ringtones I have on there, or pictures, or music… it’s not always accessible. I’ve tried other memory cards but it does the same thing. So what irritates me the most about this is that if someone calls and their ringtone is set to a song or something on my card, it doesn’t ring so I miss the call.
The battery life is awful but from what I’ve read there’s no fix for that other than turning stuff off which I’ve already done. I guess I’m going to buy another battery to have as a backup.
My biggest complaint is the e-mail. I have my personal e-mail from my local ISP coming into my phone. I have it set to check every 5 minutes but it never checks on its own. I have to physically go into it myself and check it manually. I want it to check automatically and when I get mail, I want a ringtone to sound as well as the notification that’s supposed to come up at the top of the screen. When I do have messages, they disappear into my deleted folder without me having moved them. Plus, I can’t seem to get my trashed message to permanently disappear.
I have not called customer service yet because I haven’t had a chance. I plan to call them this weekend but am not holding my breath for good news based on what I’ve read here.

Excited about getting it, took it to work the next day, and it was dead withing 4 hours, I tried charging with the USB cord to my computer, and NOTHING. Went home and called for support after I had no sucess with the outlet charger. According to the tech, the phone had crashed. And I was advised to return it or have it swaped where I got it. I did so, was a little pain. Fell in love with it again, love the features best phone I’ve had. AND NOW THE SCREEN DOES NOT WORK! It is charging and I can not see any signs of life from the phone except the little orange light. It looks like if I take out the battery and put it back it works again. But I cant do that everytime. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I hate to have to be taking it back all the time. I enjoy using it often, but I am sure I am not overwhelming it. PLEASE ADVISE

I’ve had no problems with my G1…works perfectly. If you turn the screen brightness down all the way (you can still see it in broad day light if it’s down all the way), it’ll spare you some battery life. As long as you’re not on it all day playing with apps & other bs, you should be fine. I’ve had no complaints about it…except for the fact that you don’t have to have a PW to log into any gmail accounts or their chat. I know the phone functions off your Gmail account…but still…kinda weird. Oh well…I love the G1
November 8th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I have a few things to say…
1) Battery Life Indeed Sucks- I understand there are a lot of different things you can do to conserve battery life, but why do we have to limit what our new smartphone can do? Shouldn’t it be ready to handle these things without having to stop running all the programs and apps that made this a worthy purchase in the first place??
2) AIM Service Sucks- I switched to the G1 after having Sidekicks since their introduction and I must say, NOTHING beats the SKs AIM service. Although I am somewhat partial in this, I don’t think I’m alone in saying the G1 has THE most horrible AIM service ever. It completely blows. When people IM me, it shows as though I’m receiving the message from myself. WTF is that?! I tried blocking myself as a buddy but that didn’t work. After countless fix attempts, I’ve come to accept Meebo IM as an OK alternative…for now. It has no features like away messages, you can’t end conversations and basically you can’t do anything other than straight chat. And even Meebo has its issues as its subject to log you out at will. After I received my last update my incoming texts now randomly say whatever name from my contact list it so chooses. I really want to love this phone but T-Mobile and Android need to step their games up. I know its new technology, but all the issues the G1 has been having all deal with existing technology, so don’t give your loyal customers the B.S. please…
November 8th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
i think i might get the G1 but i think i should wait like 3 months until everything settles in and they find out how to fix it all. because all phone that just came out always have errors like the new 3G iphone, it had lots of bugs and now i think they fixed it all and hopefully they do something about the battery i don’t really want my phone dying while i really need it
November 9th, 2008 at 5:45 am

The only problem I have is the same one that paul mentioned about the black phone: It starts to emit a funky squeaking sound when you move the screen. I think it is the plastic rubbing together. Everyone says battery life sucks, but what are they comparing it to? Its not great, but no smart phone out there has battery life comparable to your basic cheapy candy bar phone.
November 9th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
First off I absolutely love my G1!!! However, I do have a small problem, I can not send a sms message, I can receive them. Has anyone else come across this problem? I have tried a hard reset and still no luck…….
November 9th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
i just got my g1 yesterday and i love it so much.
but the battery sucks, is there anyway to make it last longer????
November 12th, 2008 at 1:58 am
I think this is a fantastic phone..
Issues: IM signing you out!!!! The sidekick’s IM is more reliable,
Phone randomly shuts down….phone freezes
November 12th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Uploaded a system up;oad message. Phone has stopped working. A blue light glowing at the top. What does it mean?
Please let me know, if you have any answers.

I just wanted to reply to what Paul had to say, Im glad you said it. its a new product and some of the kinks need to be worked out some people need to be a little more patient. I am a sales rep and i can say that technical issues are the worst because you want to fix the problem and when u cannot satisfy your customer you feel fustrated, because some people fail to realize that you really do want to help but some time technology can be a tad bit more difficult than intended. how ever i do empathize with everyone who is experiencing issues. as i do realize it is frustrating when you cannot use your phone properly hope all your issues get sorted out soon, GOOD LUCK!

Phone screen goes out Because half of the batterys pin are not touching soo get a pin or something an adjust the prongs if that don’t work get the hammer an ask tmonile for a refund!!
November 14th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Ok so it sounds like my problem is itty bitty compared to most of the problems on here but I accidently deleted the big clock on the home page and I was kinda hoping someone knew a way to get it back without a master reset cause I already did that yesterday when I couldn’t figure something else out and would like to avoid doing it again…. oh yeah and by the way if anyone is having trouble getting onto myspace(the desktop version) go to us.myspace.com intead of http://www.myspace…. it worked for the first week or 2 for me then I could no longer get on it. I think they were blocking it so people would download the android version… which is kinda lame of them! Anyway good luck to everyone that is having serious problems!
November 14th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
love the phone and features but i have lost the ‘use for usb storage’ check box accessed via the ’settings’, ’sd card and phone storage’ menus. it was there a couple of days ago but not now so i cant transfer files from PC. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
November 16th, 2008 at 2:21 am
So everyone is complaining about battery life, but the description says 5 hours talk time. That’s what I get. My phone usually lasts all day if I’m not on it every 5 seconds. The battery life is just as good as the iPhone’s battery life. It’s a smart phone man! This should be expected
One issue I’m having is the lag in my messaging. Sometimes the phone won’t even open the messaging application…weird. A glitch I’m hoping will be fixed soon.
Enjoy!!
November 18th, 2008 at 3:31 am
So I got the G1 2 days ago and am still unable to use it. The phone won’t let me log in at all. I keep getting an error message that says “Unable to communicate with Google servers.” The data plan has been active for 48 hours…yet it still doesn’t work. I’ve spoken with 4 service techs already and tried all their little tricks…still not letting me log on. So as of now I have a really expensive paperweight (and I say REALLY expensive cause I was a previous T-Mobile customer - so I didn’t get the phone for the advertised $179) anyone else having this problem?
November 18th, 2008 at 8:47 am
Yh great got the g1 just yesterday and all is good not excellent as some people put it.anyway no major problems so far may be its because its only a day old but there’s one thing. The bloody gadget is not reading the sd card.can’t save, can’t tranfer anything on it and its really annoying! What’s the point if I can’t even put my favorite tracks on it among other stuff? I’m yet to contact tmobile technical supp and see if they can help. Has anyone experience this by any chance? Any idea of fixing it? It keeps saying “unmounted/eject sd card” what is that suppose to mean? HELP!!
By the way does this thing come with manual at all or it has to be dwnloaded from the internet?
November 19th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
When I send texts via the G1 in the UK I obviously send them to contacts saved on my phone with numbers such as;
07771234567
However, when that person replies, it says they have replied from a number that is such;
447771234567
Now I know that calls and messages can’t be made to numbers that start with 44, they need the ‘+’ in front of them, but for some reason, when they come in, the phone doesn’t put the ‘+’ and then when I go to reply it obviously won’t work…
Is anyone else having this problem?
November 22nd, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I’ve had my G1 for 3 days now, having switched from a Nokia N95 8GB. I love this phone, but have one minor niggle. When I slide my screen up, it does not sit parallel to the keyboard, it is down 2-3mm at the left side, which looks a bit crap. Must be the hinge.
November 23rd, 2008 at 3:14 pm
I’ve had my G1 for 4 days now and I love it! The battery life sucks. I read somewhere the battery has been recalled and Tmobile would be sending out new ones to all who bought this phone. Does anyone know anything about this?
November 23rd, 2008 at 6:19 pm
I wish I could pick from my contacts who I want to forward a text to like I did with my old phone. Like pick 10 at a time if I wanted.
November 23rd, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Ok
I got the G1/
Fully Charged it then when i turn it on it lasts about 1 minute before it crashes!
I take the battery out and start again! and the same problem!
Tho it works fine through USB!
I dont understand.
Anyone got answers?

October 30th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
Neone have a problem sending sms? sends to the first person in my phone book then says innercircle@marketinginnovators.com idk what this is but the only way I can send a sms to someone is by physically going to their name in my phonebook ans sending n sms that way?. any answers????”
My phone is doning the exact same thing as kelle743: I call customer services they said I have to wait till it happens again and take it to a t-mobile store and have them troubleshoot it. The only thing different is when i recieve a text it is from an email address thats in my phone book then it always replys to the first person in my phone book…I’ve tried deleting the email address and some contacts and still nothing…if I get it fixed i’ll report back…oh’ yea and the battery life sucks so bad.
November 24th, 2008 at 12:42 am
So I got my phone 2 day ago, and I noticed that for some reason my phone wouldn’t download any apps from the android market. So I called up tmobile and talked with the smartphone and pda support only to find out that after waiting for almost 2 weeks from the time I order the phone till actually getting it, that I need to box it up and send it back. I really hope I don’t have to wait another almost 2 weeks to get the new one. Especially since it was deffective out of the box.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Got my G1 yesterday and having same problem as John posted October 23rd, 2008 at 5:44 am. I am going down to the store tomorrow morning. I’m pretty tired of seeing “There is a problem communicating with the Google servers. This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.”
I can’t even call customer care since i cant even log into the my google account the phone is really a phone yet. Its an F’in doorstop… and even functions poorly as one too. After reading JasonB’s post on ‘November 1st, 2008 at 7:47 am’ things do not look good. I certainly hope i wont have to wait another week for a phone that I’m already paying service for.
November 24th, 2008 at 9:09 am
man i suck at typing. I cant log into Google and finish the setup so the phone isn’t even a phone yet.
November 24th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
please help me! my g1 has been showing “no signal” for over a day now. it will get a few bars of signal then it goes back down to “X” I called t-mobile and they did troubleshooting for me and it still didnt work. what should i do??? im also having trouble with my text messages, they say “the message did not load” and it gives me the option to “foreclose” or “wait” i dont know how to resolve this…should i go to a t-mobile store? or what?
November 25th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
reading all of these problems makes me happy that my phone has been working almost perfectly (knock on wood) so far.
only problem i’ve had so far (one week) is that i have no service in areas that i usually do with T-Mobile. in certain areas of my apartment, my phone will show that i have 3+ bars, but everytime i try to make a call it fails… usually if i change rooms and try again, it’ll work after a while; frustrating as hell.
the only other complaint i have is that the battery does get HOT (over 100 degrees F sometimes), and dies pretty quickly.
other than that, the G1 rocks and i am completely happy with my purchase. the features are insane, and i’m crazy excited to see the future of this phone with android.
November 26th, 2008 at 1:41 am
I bought my phone oct. 23 it had been working fine until today. I went to get on and it asked me for a security pattern to open. Wtf. I never set it up for a security pattern initially. I ended up having to do a hard reset and lost everything has anyone else experienced this problem?
November 26th, 2008 at 2:24 am
okay…update from November 18th…the phone is still not working. T-Mobile sent me a new SIM card (which I had to wait a week for) and my phone still can’t “communicate with google servers.” I don’t even get the ‘E’ for the Edge network on my phone anymore. They had to put in a “workorder” with the top T-Mobile techs…so I have to wait for another 24 hours for them to call me. This is ridiculous. Anybody have suggestions besides “take the battery out” or “power off and power back on.” Because T-Mobile continues to tell me the same “fixes” which obviously aren’t working.
November 26th, 2008 at 4:51 am
FINALLY! An answer I can use…it seems that if you are roaming at all you will NOT be able to log into the G1 NOR will you be able to browse the internet.
November 26th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
I have had my g1 for a month now and it is making a screeching noise when I open and close it. I haven’t called customer service because they keep you on hold for hours at a time. One time my g1 lost its connection to the web and I was told to take the battery out for 10 secs and put it back in. As I took the back off, the glass cover for the camera broke. I called to file a claim and I was told that I have to pay $130!! That’s B.S. I looked on ebay and the battery cover sells for $25. But my issue is “Why am I paying insurance if T-Mobile won’t fix or replace damaged parts? It’s crazy. Also, the battery life sucks. I have to charge my phone 5 times a day and that’s with normal usage. My Blackberry Pearl lasted 3 days without charging and I used the Pearl more than the G1. I want to get a Blackberry Storm but I’m under contract for 2yrs. Thanks for NOTHING T-Mobile. You really know how to screw your customers!!!!
November 28th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Well I got mine about 3wks now, and it shuts off randomly, and when I’m on a long call I can’t end it when I want to, it ends when the other line disconnects. I can’t get any service even though I’m in the center of 3g. And aim sucks!
November 28th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
i love my phone but i doesn’t delete my texts.
i have a conversation with someone with 1416 text.
i click delete thread and i click OK and my phone like freezes.
also, the texting, when i send a text then try to go view another text a notification message comes up saying sorry! activity messaging(in application messaging) is not responding. is it always not responding, how do i fix this? it takes me about 2 hours to send one text message that’s ridiculous.
November 29th, 2008 at 12:20 am
How do I get the clock back after I deleted it?
November 29th, 2008 at 5:29 am
Suprisingly, I have signal much less with my g1 than my old tmobile phone. And a lot of the time ill have to restart my phone to get it to have one. Often when i do this though it will say no sim card, when I clearly have one. Then, i need to restart many time to finally get it to recognize the sim card and regain signal. Anyone else have this problem?
November 30th, 2008 at 7:16 am
When I am in a text conversation and I hit the back button to go back to the screen with the list of all the convos 80% of the time an alert pops up that there the application as stopped unexpectedly and asks if I want to force close or wait. Its really annoying. Also, does anyones phone make a sqeaking nose when you touch the screen anywhere near the right side of it.. or just in general? Thats annoying as well, especially when Im on the phone. For being such a “high tech” phone the camera is very crappy and in general when you click on things its kind of slooooow. Oh and 70% of the time the internet doesnt work/load. If I sat here and thought about it I could come up with more but its annoying thinking about all the problems.
November 30th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Switched over from verizon to T-Mobile to get the G1 at 11:00 am on friday. They said to give it 2 hours before I can login to the phone. You see, you cant access any feature on the phone until you login to your google account through the phone and you cant login to your google account on the phone until data access is available. 24 hours passed and no data access. Since i switched my number over not only am i unable to use my NEW G1 because of the login problem, I am unable to use my old phone AND i cant receive messages because I cant set up my new phones mail box in which all the calls to my number are being directed to.
argggggggggg!!!!!!
I called t-mobile and although the CS was pleasent they were completely unhelpful. They could do nothing except tell me to wait longer. They told me the “google servers are maxed out bcuase of the high load from black friday”. C’mon the Google servers are experiencing load problems?!!! Really?!!!! Not buying that.
Well its 10:06 on Sunday and I have yet to get the data plan. I have no form of communication thanks to our friends at t-mobile and I must admit I am pretty pissed off. WTF?!
November 30th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Just got off the phone with CS and tech and all I had to do was restart my phone. The data plan was then present and I was able to login. I was thankful but why have the last 3 calls to various support not informed me of this simple process????
November 30th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
I got issues with G1. My first g1 had to be return back to tmobile because 3g worked only for like 15min and got diconnected and then phone had to be restarted to get 3g back..Second one they send me I cant even pass the login to gmail account as there no 3g or edge connection..Tmobile says they work hard on this issue on their end. Its been for 4 days now…I wait one week and return this phone to tmobile…
December 1st, 2008 at 6:06 pm
I got 2 g1 phone and both have the screen problem, first one I got has the little dot on the screen, I returned it and got a second one from the tmobile, the second one is even worst, it has a black line across the screen, I called to the tmobile for another exchange, but they not do it, they said I broke it, the g1 screen is really suck and the t mobile service is suck also!?
December 3rd, 2008 at 9:14 am
So i was on my phone talking to a friend and after we hung up i went to go get something and came back and my phone was off. I remember that my battery was fully charged and nothing was wrong with it so i tried to turn it back on and it did nothing I also took out the battery and put it back in and again nothing happened. So I tried connecting it to my charger and still nothing happened. I tried calling customer service but it was to late at night and they said to call them back tomorrow. My phone has been off for about 4 hours and I have been trying to turn it back on here and there so what should i do? Is anyone else having this problem?
December 4th, 2008 at 4:45 am
I was on the radio app and my phone shuts down 40% bat.I tried turning it back on and it would not…I took out bat and put it back in still nothing. I put it on the charger and now it works once I took it off the charger and tried the staion again it shut down for the secound time. My question is are the phones that are shutting off defective. Also after your phone shuts down by its self check your infor where it says how long your phone been awake and asleep for it restarts well it did for me. If this happens again I want a new phone……..
December 4th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
italian guy…. had the exact same problem this morning. i called, and theyre replacing my phone. aparently a common problem with first gen g1s
December 4th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I just got the g1 today and its taking forever for me to set it up. . its still waiting to connect with the google service for me to activate the phone. . 3 hrs later. is there anything i can do to speed up this process??
December 4th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
This phone sucks!!! I advise to stay away from it….. don’t let the looks and “possible” cool features fool ya. Should’ve never got rid of my Blackberry. The phone is comparable to a sexy hooker with no brains.
December 6th, 2008 at 1:15 am
hey i have the same problem as john (top of the page, 0cteber 23) can’t get pass the sign in screen without google having connection problems, went through everything with tech support all the way up to the highest level, now im waiting for them to call me…so far the phone sucks, good thing i didn’t extend my contract!
December 6th, 2008 at 9:19 am
So my boyfriend and I both have G1″s. Im enjoying my phone highly. Yeah the battery life sucks tough, but I believe Tmobile offers a docking station for the device with a spare battery. Sorry….. I have been searching and so far no extended battery. Anyway……. so his phone has been doing some funky stuff lately and I figured maybe someone is experiencing the same issue and has found a solution of some sort. Personally I think the phone may be defective and Im urging him to have it replaced. So he has a major force close issue, his phone resets sometimes out of nowhere, and today he said all his contact info was wiped out. Anybody have any suggestions other than replacing the device? Thanks
December 6th, 2008 at 9:31 am
In response to Sunnie…….. the force close issue seems to be a huge problem for everyone. I notice sometimes when im running applications from the Market. A lot of the time, its the application and the developers usually create an updated version which is supposed to work out the bugs. Check out the market every now and then. If there is an application that you have already downloaded and you see the notice for you to install it, that means there has been a new version created. The screen is a bit “creaky”. Ive mos def noticed that. Initially I thought the screen might pop off or something. lol I chalked it up to a low quality spring device but so far no problems with it and my boyfriend and I put the phone through the ringer. The internet issue is solvable. If your a constant surfer, you have to clear out the browser history in settings. That usually gets the quicksearch tool bar and browser back to normal. All in all, its a decent phone but again this is first generation technology and problems are to be expected. Sometimes I feel like a test dummy lol. Keep your eye out for the over the air updates…if you decide to keep the device. Hope this helped.

December 7th, 2008 at 7:14 am
Hi, I had the problem registering my new G1 with Google. I could neither register my old GMail account nor create a new account. The error message was, “There is a problem communicating with the Google servers. This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services.”
TMobile support was unable to fix the problem and only said to leave the phone on for a few days to see if it fixed itself. I searched the ‘net and tried resetting the phone both ways but that didn’t help.
I suspected that my living outside a 3G area was the problem and that seems to be the case.
To solve the problem I first verified that my TMobile internet was activated on my account and on my SIM card by putting the card in another phone and connecting to the ‘net on it. Then I found the APN setting on the G1 and I changed the APN at the heading “T-Mobile US” from the new 3G APN “epc.tmobile.com” to the older APN “internet2.voicestream.com”. The APNs can be accessed on your still-locked phone by pushing the “Menu” button at the sign-in screen. Scroll down to “T-Mobile US”, select it and change “epc.tmobile.com” to “internet2.voicestream.com”, exit by pushing the left-arrow button a few times, then re-enter your GMail info. If the “Edge” icon has appeared in the menu bar area, then you’re golden!
Admin Said - Thanks for taking the time to share this info. I’m sure it will help alot of people out.
December 7th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
I received my G1 on Friday and it has locked up at least 10 times since, requiring me to remove the battery to restart it. I’ve seen reports of people getting theirs replaced with similar problems. Has that fixed it for anyone? I’m assume this isn’t a problem that everyone has bee having, is it?
December 7th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
roebling, thanks for your info, however i am still in the same place as i was. It has almost been a week and i yet to use my new G1, frustration has been building to an all time high, and i am about to switch to AT&T if the problem continues…or not corrected by this coming monday. I wish I can enjoy my phone like everyone else. If anyone has any other suggestions about the server error problem please let me know. As of right now I hate the phone
December 8th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
my g1 won’t search for wifi networks and can’t connect to my network which is remembered, please help
December 9th, 2008 at 11:51 am
So I posted back on Nov 24th, about my phone not downloading anything from the market, or email attachments, etc. I got my new phone on the 2nd of dec and pulled it out of the box, started it up and it was giving me the same problem. Called t-mobile, we changed sim cards, no change, she reprovsioned the account, no change. Well then a programmer firend of mine suggested seting up a new google account and trying that, since I was having problems with google related services. Set up the new account, and my phone has been working like a “Dream” ever since.
So if anyone run into that problem, I hope this can help out.
December 9th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
I recieved my G1 a few days ago. Everything seemed to work fine except the AIM application!!!! I had a sidekick before and AIM worked perfectly on it. On the G1, I am unable to recive/send all ims. I’ll be having a conversation with someone for the first two minutes, and then I just won’t recieve any more ims. I spoke to customer tech support and they are sending me a new phone. I have a feeling that AIM won’t work on the new phone either. AIM needs to be fixed on the G1!!!!
December 9th, 2008 at 11:16 pm

Problem:
“my phone doesn?t connect to my computer when the usb is plugged, so i cant transfer my music”
Possible Solution:
Make sure you mounted the phone because it doesn’t do that automatically
Problem:
Videos won’t play
Solution:
G1 doesn’t come with video player so go download one from the app store
Problem:
Phone shuts off when keyboard is opened
Solution:
HTC had a design flaw when the keyboard opens too fast it kicks the battery out. you can slide the keyboard slower or put a small piece of tape on the battery so it wont come loose.
Problem:
AIM sucks
Solution:
New AIM app just released today
Problem:
Lost all contacts
Solution:
Don’t worry because your contacts are saved with your g mail account, go into your settings and resync manually.
Admin Said - Phappy, Thanks for taking the time to offer these possible solutions. You have probably saved a lot of people a lot of trouble.

I hung up after speaking to a friend for about 40 minutes. A minute later, I tried to make another call — but the call won’t go through. I tried to text, but it also didn’t go through. After several minutes, I turned the phone off and on, and the problem went away. But damn, I shouldn’t have to reset the phone like that!

I got the thing yesterday had a nightmare getting it to work initially. I use a pay and go sim so not on contract so activated it using a borrowed contrbact sim and borrowed google account once set up swap sims over and it works on prepaid. Untill theres a problem then I have to borrow sim etc again.
Feels like its going to break easily , creaky loose plastic sound from back cover and yes my screen sits down on the left by a couple of mms
Playing with it today killed a fully charged battery in under 4 hours
Only plays youtube videos and I cant play music from sites I visit on my pc and cannot download itunes so no pod casts. Also only just realized there is no headphone jack socket so a nightmare connecting to my existing JBL speaker set up, have to buy some sort of mini usb adapter.
Screen went funny trying to enter pattern code , now its locked and I am waiting for my friiend to come back and unlock it with his sim and account passwords etc. Screen froze after 4 dots everytime and theres 6 dots in my pattern code.
I am begining to wonder if this is the phone for me , at the moment its not doing what I expected it to do and am very disapointed , especially as i cannot use skype on it without it costing me minuites .
not a replacement for my old phone
not a replacement for my mp3 player
not a replacement for my laptop either
which was the idea but this phone is already looking useless and redundant itself . I thought this phone would let you do everything but infact it hardly lets you do anything because that would mean someone somewhere losing money along the way so the software is geared up to restrict you and frustrate you and ideally cost you money and time all of the time
Cant even get it to pair up with the old phone via bluetooth , all i wanted was a decent ring tone and there is not a single decent one to choose from all crap. Also noticed if you try to play a video on youtube via the google search they wont play they only seem to play by visiting youtube from the icon on the phones menu. Also I have the white one and find the buttons are easier to see when the light is off but comes on making the characters on the letters almost invisible to see in daylight and can only really see keyboard clearly in the dark , maybe the black one is better in that respect. Also noticed it getting rather hot at the back when watching a youtube video, infact very hot . I doubt it will last long im already fed up with it after 2 days , Can someone please make a phone that works properly and does exactly what it says on the tin ?

I Have the G1 and my battery life is great. Here’s a tip to every1 (I’m not trying to be mean)
Condition your battery.
Steps:
1- Charge battery for 24 hours
2- allow battery to completely die
3- charge until battery is @ 100%
4- Repeat 2-3 times.
This goes for all cell phone batteries. Also DO NOT charge the battery overnight only allow the battery to charge until it is full. Although the symbols on the phones show that the charging has stopped The battery continues to draw power and can result in reducing the life of the battery.
I got these tips from a VZ Wireless rep when I bought a phone 2 years ago and I have always followed them and my battery life usually exceeds the specs provided by the manufacturer.
Hope This helps every one out.!
Admin Said - Thanks for the useful tips, Steven. You’re right, these are good tips to follow for ANY rechargeable battery.

For all you guys that are having problems with AIM, I found the best solution is to use a Jabber AIM transport through Google Talk. You can find out how to do this here http://tinyurl.com/ynvsf8 it’s better to use Google Talk anyway since it’s through the data plan and is quicker and nicer.
Admin Said - Good tip, Stevo. Thanks for the usefull input.

so i just got my G1 delivered about 4 hours ago, and im having the same problems John and Jason had. it asks me to create or sign into my GMAIL and when i do, it says theres a problem with the service or my sim card. WTF. so i tried the new simcard the phone came with, and still the same. i have turned the phone on and off about 50 times and inserted the sim card idk how many times and its not working, i called T-Mobile and not much help from them either, or maybe just that particular worker idk w/e. il call back later, any help?
it would really suck to finally have my phone and for it to be such a disappointment, because from passed experience when i used my friends it seemed like such an awesome phone.. ugh. im just completely annoyed with it right now.

I bought this shit on the day of release expecting that finally i got what i wanted. it was woking fine for few days but now there is lots of problem. the otherday i download snapshot software from market and later on speaker stopped woking finally i had to delete that software. another problem sometime fone restarts by itself. The major problem is before i was able to use internet browsing when i am on call with bluetooth headset on but not anymore everytime i try to make a call it says no network. i am tired of this phone i think my 400 is goin down the stream.

After I recieved the phone , Everthing looked good, I couldn’t get it out of my hand, but that was cut short after reliazing that I’m not getting any phone calls, after troubleshooting I narrowed the problem to youtube. Everytime i get on youtube i can’t get any phone calls or any Notification, I called the customer service, they did the same troubleshooting. any they suggested buyers rumors programe , send the phone back, we will send you a new one, at that time i did not have another phone i decided to wait for the factory warranty which kicks in after 14 days , after all the this i found out that they send out Refurbished phone. I really thing about Canceling that order

Actually the only major problem i faced with my G1 is that after a couple of weeks, when i started scrolling my messages i found them scrolling in a weird manner not as fast as they used to…..and when i deleted them all and started from the beginning i found the problem still exists….
Anyone can help why scrolling my messages is becoming slowwww!!!!

This is my second g1 and I’m having probs again. It has a mind of its own, it opens applications I never touch. Cannot use touch screen it just won’t work have 2 navigate everywhere via wheel. Cannot complete a text without it jumpin to either attempting to phone the person or it closes. Don’t even touch buttons and it is moving or shakin icons. Not happy with this phone, battery life is rubbish like everyone else annoyed about this cannot even rely on takin phone out with me on journeys and it lastin. Google and tmobile u must do somethin 2 improve this phone and keep your customers happy your new creation is not up to standard too many faults and its at our expense. Don’t u do trials on new technology . Cannot use the alleged miracle as a phone more of a curious gadget. Not relaible or practical every day fone.

The innercircle@marketinginnovators.com is and employee error. inner circle refers to inner circle point/domoregetmore and when I called TC PDA they said log in to innercirlce and under MY ACCOUNT and MY PROFILE to erase contact number from cell and any notifications of kpi points from being sent to cell phone. then erase all threads for sms/mms. then turn ur phone off. Turn phone back and and do test msg to self. I tried that but still did not work. they said next step would be to download APK installer app to save market downloads to SD card and do master reset by holding END and HOME key at same time then sliding phone up and pressing alt + k or something like that. have not done that part yet. hope this helps you both, kelle743 and Cyle Johnson.

Had my G1 for a few weeks now. Like the phone. Hate the battery life. Yesterday I slid open the slider to text a friend and the screen went blank. I didn’t whip it open either. A simple nudge and the screens out and now I’m out a phone. Luckily Tmobile is sending me a new one for free no charge to me. Only problem is, I hope they don’t send me a refurbished one. All features of the phone are great. Another slight problem I’m having is not being able to send out a mass text.
Any ideas of why my phone shut off and how do I send a mass text?
January 6th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Um I have this problem with my phone, not like the other problems but a problem all the same. I’ve had my phone for about a month and a half, very nice phone and all that jazz but now I’m having this problem where I can only talk to people on speakerphone. Further explain? Sure, why not.
When people call me, I can’t hear them when just trying to normally use the handset. However, if I turn on speakerphone then I can hear them and talk to them just fine. But off of speaker phone they can hear me but I can’t hear them.
Things I’ve tried:
Resetting the phone (both hard and soft)
Taking off the battery and letting the phone sit for a few
Checking the menu options (before and after the hard reset)
So before I go break my foot off in Tmobile’s ass, can some one help me. Thanks a bunch,
Rocketman
Admin Said - I don’t think I would waste too much time waiting to call T-Mobile
It sounds like a hardware issue.

Is their a limit to the amount of emails?
Can I still get my tmail on this phone?
I have an alarm going off but I’m not sure where its coming from. At first I thought it might have been one of the alarms that came with the phone so I deleted all those, and it still went off. Could this be coming from an app? I’m so confused.
January 7th, 2009 at 2:25 am
I upgraded to a G1; 55 hours ago
I still can’t get into the network. I haven’t even been able to get past the log-on screens. I’ve been back to the store twice, spoken with level 2 and 3 tech support (twice), and even gone into tech-chat at the store. I was told it could take up to 48 hrs to provision into the network. We’ve done hard boots, cold boots, reboots in safe mode. We’ve checked the SIM card, IMEI #, you name it. We’ve checked everything except its damn prostate.
This is getting a little ridiculous. I understand that it’s new technology, but can’t this crap get worked out before they launch the product? It’s not like it’s a Microsoft product, everybody’s used to their s**t not working right for about a year after launch.
But seriously, I’m being told now that it could take another 24 to 48 hrs to get it on-line. That’s a total of 96hrs for those of you that are keeping score.
I’ve been assured that the problem is not with the phone, that it’s a network problem. Well that’s not giving me the warm and fuzzies either. If T-mobile’s network can’t reliably support the phone, what’s the point? All the technology in the world is useless if it doesn’t work when you need it.
Are my expectations out of line here? I upgraded because the first phone I bought (a Samsung Gravity) wasn’t performing right. So I upgraded to the best piece of equipment they had. Now I’ve spent 3 days without a cell phone, that I’m paying for, with no resolution in sight.
I swear this phone is going to tear the A** right out of me.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
I hate this fone its crap! I had it 3 weeks and it has just started to get problems connecting to everythin including calls so after this post I am going 2 smash it cos its wan* and tmobile r 2!
January 12th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
First of all this thing does not have a video recorder… WTF!
Also I have had really bad problems with connectivity. I have always had 100% reception where I live (london!), and sometimes the g1 just decides that it won’t receive any signal. Which also means I can’t use the internet, aswel as not being able to call or text. The most basic things a phone should do. So every time this happens I have to go to settings and manually search for networks and try and connect to tmobile.
This problem has not been too bad recently bt had a very bad period when I couldn’t connect at all for a few days, tried reseting my phone, taking out battery etc, but ended up using my old phone.
Yesterday, it couldn’t get any signal from tmobile so decided to connect to orange? Wtf!
Also what a sh*t battery life!

Oh and when are there actually going to be some good apps in the andriod market??
January 13th, 2009 at 11:46 am
I wish I loved the G1 as I had hoped. I switched from the Blackberry Curve and regret it. The G1 has some really awesome features but it lags in speed. I have to wait 10-20 seconds when switching between SMS or email. This is very frustrating. Plus every time I want to do something I’m asked to force quit or wait? How irritating. The contact list could use some help as well as the volume of the device. Not to mention the barely adequite battery life. Oh yeah the keyboard could use some improvement the back light isn’t very visible on the bronze phone. Plus the bulk when typing on the right hand side of the phone whatever. Who were the testers of this phone?
January 13th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Ok i just want to know why my ringtones keep switching back to default is there anything that i can do to solve problem is there an application for this?

My G1 touch screen doesn’t work for almost 3 weeks and it is not easy to get T-Mobile help desk. I am thinking to switch to iphone.
What is wrong with google?
January 15th, 2009 at 9:17 am
I’ve had this phone since it first was released and I love it. And that’s saying a lot considering I’m a developer for Apple. Switch around with the applicattions and you’ll find that the problem isn’t the phone; it’s you.
Admin Said - And I’m sure you do all of your developement work on a PC too
January 15th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
I have the same problem of I cant get past the set-up stage! Every time I try to sign in it says (There is a problem communicating with the google servers. This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.). Customer care gives you the run around about the data service taking up to 48 hours to become active every time you call even after that time they told me to wait another hour and try it GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I have the t-mobile G1 for a couple of weeks now and the phone is aweomse! It does a lot of cool things and the app store is pretty cool to mess around with. However…..everytime I try to access the internet or Google maps or play a game or anything the phone just simply shuts off. In order for me to really use my phone it has to be plugged in at all times. It sucks, I’m sure it’s not the battery because when I turn it back on my battery will still have a lot of life left. Anyone else having this problem?
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:38 pm
My phone keeps hanging up in the middle of conversations. Has anyone else seen this. At first I thought my face was hitting the button or screen, but I’ve now taken to holding the phone away from my head to avoid this, and I still have the problem.
January 24th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I have had my G1 for a few weeks now and have had no significant problems until now. I noticed that my phone does not always ring, especially when the call is coming from a cell phone? My phone is not silenced and it does ring for landlines. I have tried changing the ringtone. Any ideas???
January 25th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
I’ve had my G1 for about 2days now, I’m actually typing on it now, I unlocked mine and have it on O2, it works perfectly, software and os are quick and I have had no problems with it, all of it runs amazingly!
The only thing that I do have a slight problem with is that the battery life isn’t great, but if you put it on charge over nite it will last all day.
I’m really glad I got this phone, I had an iphone before it, and I actually think it could be better than the iphone! I’m really impressed!

G1 PHONE NOT RINGING: I am hoping the problem with my G1 is resolved. I called T-Mobile and they said it was a software update or change (which I had not received notice about). Anyway after the update they made test calls which went thru so time will tell. I asked to be get credited for the time the phone was not fully servicing, but they said since I had not reported it earlier they could only give me a $5 credit… disappointing as I switched to T-Mobile hoping for better service.

What an absolute disaster of a phone!
For no apparent reason, one minute my emails are there in the Inbox, next minute they’re all gone. Wonderful!
Battery life - diabolical.
3G connection - totally unreliable.
Bluetooth - seems to run an earpiece but DOES NOT apear to allow transfer of files - it will not even connect with my other phone despite being paired with it.
I will be returning it to T-Mobile shortly…

Neone have a problem sending sms? sends to the first person in my phone book then says innercircle@marketinginnovators.com idk what this is but the only way I can send a sms to someone is by physically going to their name in my phonebook ans sending n sms that way?. any answers?????
My phone is doning the exact same thing as kelle743: I call customer services they said I have to wait till it happens again and take it to a t-mobile store and have them troubleshoot it. The only thing different is when i recieve a text it is from an email address thats in my phone book then it always replys to the first person in my phone book?I?ve tried deleting the email address and some contacts and still nothing?if I get it fixed i?ll report back?oh? yea and the battery life sucks so bad.
4th person here with this same problem. Identical to what and how Clye described above. Was hoping that by reposting it would hopefully catch someones eye who might be of help. Overall I am pretty happy with the phone. 3G not in my area but I knew that going into it, just hope it expands soon. Apps are getting better but you probably won’t see the real good stuff till the market is monetized, again hopefully soon. So if anyone has an answer to the SMS issue above PLEASE speak up.

Connie- it blinks to show that you have a text/voice message. It isn’t for decoration… but if you want it to keep blinking don’t answer your messages.
February 1st, 2009 at 3:47 pm
So here’s my list, in 2 categories:
——————–
Resolved/acceptable problems…
1. Battery life. Yes, it’s bad when you’re using GPS over 3g while your phone’s searching for Wi-Fi with full brightness (how I used it). But with everything turned off, using it just as a phone, it seemed to last just as long as any other phone. So it’s acceptable, although T-mobile needs to address this. Buying a higher capacity battery would be worth it.
2. Dropped calls. Get a new sim card. It worked for me. The old ones don’t know how to handle 3g. It also started picking up 3g more consistently with the new one.
3. Google maps doesn’t allow point A-B clicking for easy directions and searching like it does online. A simple fix, but it’s not there yet. Also, how hard would turn-by-turn directions be?
4. No flash. Seems like it would have been a simple addition. It would help the camera in dim light.
5. No flash player. Looks like there will be one someday, though, as Adobe has demonstrated a functioning version. Embedded videos in a browser would set this phone light years beyond the competition.
6. No easy way to podcast. I tried the 3rd party apps but they didn’t seem to work. This would help kill the iphone.
7. No embedded onscreen keyboard (regular and/or T9). There are some great apps that include their own (Steel, ChompSMS, etc.), but this would have been a very easy addition.
—————–
Unresolved/unacceptable problems…
1. Missed calls while transmitting data on EDGE with no missed call indication. The phone prioritizes data over voice! This absolutely needs to be fixed. 3g can handle both so it won’t be an issue unless on edge. I’ve confirmed this issue with multiple T-mobile techs and they are working on it.
2. Browser doesn’t always register clicks. It’s quite annoying. Update fix?
3. Camera is slow and blurry in dim light. There’s a good app that helps (snapphoto I think?) by reducing quality and adding a timer (so you can set it down).
4. No video camera. Seriously… my cheap Nokia can do it! Hopefully, they’ll add it in updates.
5. Memory management. It seems like the only way to close apps is to power cycle the phone. Apps are stored on the phone vice memory card, as are text messages, cache, history, etc. A T-mobile tech rep told me that I need to be clearing out my cache and history frequently, delete all text conversations over 50 messages (you can’t save them as different conversations with the same person), and power cycle the phone daily for the phone to work properly. Serious? Google couldn’t address this problem in their platform? Hopefully an update will fix this.
6. Email loading seems slow and often hangs regardless of connection type and speed.
7. Syncing with gmail works sporadically (but remember, if on EDGE you won’t get your calls while syncing).
—————
The phone is GREAT… when it works right. It needs some serious updates, which no one seems to know anything concretely about. It wasn’t worth it to me to pay $179 + $25/mo to be a Beta tester. T-mobile customer service has been very helpful, but when you have a phone that doesn’t work right, you can’t rely on promises to fix something “in the next month or two”.
So, especially because of the missed calls on EDGE, it’s returned. I was very sad to do it. The phone COULD rock. It just doesn’t right now.
Admin Said - Thanks for the good, quality comment, Chris.

The G1 came out in the Netherlands last week, so i went at got one last friday (6 days ago). has worked fine until just a minute ago, when it just shut down on me for no apparent reason. The battery icon was still fully filled. when i try to turn it on, all it does is flash a red light at the top side of the phone. Other than that, i et zero response. Does this just mean that my battery icon was deceiving me, or is there a bigger problem?
February 6th, 2009 at 1:39 pm

February 10th, 2009 at 4:06 am
problems with the g1…
1. Calls not coming in..I only know I got a call when someone text message saying they called me
2. SMS Not working often get message late sometimes hours late
3. One time I was getting other people texts convos
4. Batt. Life is bad.
and many more
February 11th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
My personal opinion is that the G1 is a great little device, and has a lot of nice functionality for a device as small as it is. Reading the issues people have above, a lot sound like either hardware problems, or expectations that were not met.
Anyway, on to my own issue - since the recent update (RC33) instant messaging seems to be having a problem in maintaining a connection. I’m standing in the same place as last week, before the update, trying to have an IM conversation, and messages will not send. This didn’t happen prior to the update (for two months solid), so it seems rather coincidental. Not the end of the world, but a little bit frustrating if the update made existing functionality less stable.
Admin Said - Wouldn’t a “hardware problem” with the G1 be a “G1 Problem”?

wen i took it 2 tmobile they were convinced its not a problem. interesting

Love this phone, but for some reason I have a lot of duplicate phone entrys in my contacts. Is there a way I can edit these entrys quicker than on the keyboard
February 25th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
I’ve had a G1 since November and have had a few problems (mostly annoyance issues) that have made me think about switching.
1) Opening the phone too quickly or during the receiving of a text shuts it down. A few times it wouldn’t boot back up so I had to remove/put back the battery and then it worked.
2) A few times it started to refuse to send texts and returned error messages. A reboot solved this each time.
3) Data signal shuts off for no apparent reason. Either rebooting or enabling/disabling Airplane mode fixes this. This could be related to problem #2.
4) MicroSD slot can be a bit difficult to open.
5) BATTERY LIFE. I’ve see heavily-used Wii Remotes last longer than this!
6) Sometimes (especially during memory/CPU intensive activities) it will reboot automatically for no apparent reason. This is rare in my experience.
7) Heat. This device can become warm quite quickly, especially when doing things like web browsing, etc.

Problem:
Accidentally deleted all my contacts in my GMAIL account on my computer. Go to phone and try to make a call from my contacts list and guess what : GONE!
I say anyone with this phone just drop it and find something else. G1 support they just tell you to unsync the phone from the gmail account. ITS A LITTLE TOO LATE FOR THAT NOW ISN’T IT! G1 support could careless and just say “Well I am sorry that happened to you”. A better system needs to be put in place to separate the reliability on Phone Number to Email Address relationship. UNSYNC YOUR PHONE if you want to keep your sanity.
OH: Try calling GOOGLE. THERE ISN’T ONE PERSON YOU CAN TALK TO, TO GET ANY INFORMATION RETRIEVED ALTHOUGH IT IS STILL ON THERE SYSTEM NO DOUBT.

Anybody have the very bizzare problem of having an image of unknown origin appearing in your browser? It doesn’t originate with the website as I’ve checked on my wife’s G1 and on a computer. How can I get rid of it? And how did it get there?! Thanks.
PS - in general I think the phone and service are pretty giid.
March 5th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Yeah I love my phone and the battery is fine as long as I’m not running 1,000,000,000 apps it lasted from 30% til I got home after an 8hr rave and saved me when I got lost on the way home badass woooo!!!
Now with any phone I run into a couple speed bumps such as the one I’m stuck on. I have a couple 1,000+ threads on sms texts and need to delete them but the phone freezes and force closes the program everytime I try even when I try to wait it does it.
Any suggestions on how to get rid of em of what I should do?

had my g1 in the uk since beginning of february unfortunately the phone is awful i was really liking it and although i was expecting a few errors minor ones i wasnt expecting the major issues i got especially as it came out in the states 6 months before it was released here in the uk.
2 weeks into having it it stopped sending texts and would leave them in draft i would have to try 10 to 30 times to send it
when i make calls there is a constant buzzing noise and wind noise.
you get a rebound of your voice too.
turned of 3g as i heard this could be a issue but it made the web unusuable i live in a perfect signal area.
rang t-mobile up after bout 4 hrs onthe phone they insisted it wernt there problem i needed to speak to the manufacturer *** news flash t-mobile are the manufacturer*** however they have secured htc to be a thrid party manufacturer
anyhow they refused to replace the phone so back to t-mobile eventualy they give me an exchange.
g1 number 2 well turned it on set it up no signal i know there is signal as my parents both on t-mobile and got signal on there mobiles.
tried to make a call couldnt hear a thing so tried a you tube video no sound wat soever.
phoned tmobile up again replacement sent out
g1 number 3 well it failed to come with a protective screen rung them up “we dont have them and cant provide them” so i hung up and rang head office eventually got a satisfactory reply.
any how this number 3 is giving me problems saying people send me texts when they dont in fact it is someone different sending me it.
sorry to say this one is going back too now and i am not having another g1 very dissapointing.

ok, so i bought the g1 from sum1 who had already used it, i had a bb curve b4, i put my sim card in & tried 2 set it up, and got a message stating “there is a problem connecting to the google servers, or this may be a prob w ur sim card, please try again later.”
so i went to tmobile & had the “g1 plan “installed, and the dumb woman at the counter was trying to rush me out of the store bc they were colosing, so she told me it “should” work, and may take up 2 two hours…that was at %pm yesterday..it is now 1239pm the NEXT day and i am STILL getting the same message!!!??
any insight? if so email aerialangel711@gmail
i plan on taking a trip 2 tmobile & throwing the cell at them, lol JK

Hi to all,
I have encountered 2 issues with my G1 and hope that someone can help me out with solving them.
1) I have the text “safe mode” on my screen and do not know what to do to get rid of it / restore to normal mode.
2) Whilst I am successful in downloading application but when I try to open the application I am getting “Lunch error, {name application} could not be launched.
I would very much appreciate if somebody can share with me his/her experience with regards to this issues.
March 8th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
I cant beleive this phone, i switched from a sidekick 3 with crappy service that freezes all the time to a G1 that cant even get pasted “there is a problem communicating with the google servers.
I basicly lived at the t=mobile store making sure all my questions have been answered before i even thought of renewing my contract. and they said it is great in everyway..
the tmobile store assoc. said it takes 2mins to 2 hrs to connect to the internet, when i asked about the regular cell phone calls and text message he said no problem. well i’ve been in a problem for over 2 hrs and no service. i’m a mom and depend on being in conntact with my family. after chatting with an online rep they said i have to wait 2-24 HOURS!! I knew i shouldn’t have gotten it! I HATE TMOBILE!
March 8th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
one thing that gives me hope is the 14day remorse period, i plan on returning it tomorrow, it it is not active by tomorrow.

I love my G1, but I’ve been having issues with it lately…
Battery life is a major fail! Had it on the charger overnight, so I’d hear my alarm this morning… But Thank god I asked to borrow my roommate’s alarm clock. When I woke up, my phone was dead!!! Plugged it in while I showered. Checked it again while having my morning cigarette, 43% battery. Sweet. Unplugged it. Oh, guess not. Within 5 minutes of inactivity, it depletes to 3%.
This was a large inconvenience to me last night, as every time my phone would ring, or if I would make a call, the battery would die (while on the charger) or if I thought I had an okay amount on there, it’d die within minutes, without my additional help.
Fast forward to when I texted my boyfriend to call me, when he got a chance. The phone rings, then mid-ring (again, while on the charger) it dies. Oh, but get this! IT KEEPS VIBRATING. I turned it back on. Still vibrating. I dialed the boyfriend back, had to keep it on speaker phone to save my ear from going numb due to excessive buzzing. I resolved that issue by turning it off/on. Still, weird though!!!!
One last thing… I attempt to send a text, and it’ll say “message not sent” when I have full signal. It’s [sarcasm]super convenient[/sarcasm] when I’m having an in-depth text conversation. (hey, there are some conversations to have that you don’t want people hearing. what better way to do it than text, right? ) Issue sometimes get fixed when I turn the phone off/on.
Just wondering how/why this happens. I love my G1, don’t like living without it, and I just want it to function like it did before… Last week. I don’t drop my phone, I’ve got the hard cover on it, etc, etc.
Help!
March 9th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
I’ve had only a few issues with my g1 I hate the battery life on it no matter what I do still doesn’t last as long as I think it should and I hate the position of the sd slot mine always seems to pop open with the slightest little bump but overall I’m satisfied with the phone…email me if you’d like
March 11th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

March 12th, 2009 at 6:38 am
I love my new G1 for the most part, however, I cannot connect it to my PC. I connect it, I open the folders on the SD card, and when I try to transfer pictures or music to it, the computer either crashes or I get an I/O device error. However, if i take the mem card out, and put it into the HP printer and access it that way, (different pc by the way) all is good. Very frustrating. I have a newer HP Pavilion that is virus free and up to date running XP. Any advice??????????
March 13th, 2009 at 1:31 am
Hey all. Got my g1 a week ago. Absolutely love it. Both me and my boyfriend got them and have had no problems. Battery life os not long but if you think about it a laptops battery live is 3 to 4 hours when using it constantly and using the internet wifi gps etc will wear the battery out just like that. Still amazing tho. I don’t know where everyone else is but the customer service in slc, ut rocks. They answered every question I had and helped me transfer all my contacts.
March 14th, 2009 at 3:52 am

THEY CONTINUOUSLY MADE EXCUSES AS TO WHY THEY COULD NOT DO THAT… AFTER I THREATENED TO CANCEL THE PLAN THEY TRANSFERED ME TO SOMEONE I THOUGHT COULD HELP ME… SO I BOUGHT (YES BOOOUUUUUGGHHHTT) THE SIDEKICK 2008 AND THAT DIDNT WORK THE FIRST FREAKIN DAY… THEN COMES THE

I AM BEYOND PISSED. I GIVE IT A DAY AND THEN I MIGHT THROW THIS PEICE OF CRAP AND THE 2 SIDEKICKS I STILL HAVE (THAT OF COURSE DONT WORK) THROUGH TMOBILES WINDOW… ABSOULUTELY RIDICULOUS…
TMOBILE IS CRAP. IF I HAD 400 TO CANCEL TMOBILE I WOULD… I MIGHT JUST CANCEL AND NOT PAY THERE SKETCHY FAKE THEIVIN BEHINDS…

this phone has a bad battery life..and it freezes ..and often processes slowwwwwwww…also …sometimes whenever i press the MESSAGES button..it takes me to MAPS ..WTF? sometimes when i am placing a call, the person on the other line reports that i sound like a “monster”
If this phone has so much problems ..why did they even release it? This is some kind of fraud i think the FTC should know about this because this really is a joke i paid hundreds for this phone and i am def NOT getting what i paid for. The phone even feels like a cheap toy made in China.
Also .. paying almost $40 per month for internet and text…the internet even on 3G in my area (Los Angeles) is slow. I just found out MetroPCS now includes local coverage nationwide. I think im going to sell this junk to pay for my early termination fee
March 19th, 2009 at 2:34 am

Has anyone had a problem with their G1 resetting itself at random during calls or while using apps, or constantly while connected to the charger? Once it resets it stays on the G1 screen, does not fully load, so I have to reset the phone by removing the battery, it again begins to load, gets to the Android screen then shuts itself off and will not come back on unless I remove the battery again, and the cycle repeats. After doing this about 4 times it finally kicks on. It happens numerous times throughout the day. Each time I have to follow the same steps in order to get it to kick on. I have done a master reset twice already, still has not changed anything.
Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue before I contact T-Mobile for a replacement!
March 20th, 2009 at 8:34 am
I have had the G1 since opening day and the battery issue has been mentioned already. My issue is that the phone randomly dials people on my contact list. I know that sometimes it must be me (user error) AND many times the phone simply dials, and not just the last call that was on the list. This happens more and more all the time. Freaks me out and is the only problem with the phone that concerns me. Are others having the same problem?
March 21st, 2009 at 10:28 am
Yes Mine Did The same,u Must Out The Screen Lock on….
then when u call click over to the contact list then hit call,it should fix the problem
March 27th, 2009 at 9:31 am

March 31st, 2009 at 12:45 pm
I’ve had a G1 since Jan.09. Basically THIS PHONE IS AN OVER HYPED PIECE OF SHIT!!!
If I could murder every single person that pushed this piece of garbage out for the sole purpose of turning a quick profit, I swear to god I would.
I have had 5. Yes, F I V E G1 phones since Jan 09 and it is now almost April. I have to call to have a 6th one sent to me.
The first one came with all the standard issues and non-functioning “features” like
?GPS that never works and is super freakin slow to find position even in a 3G metro area
? Camera button that almost never works before 3 tries then takes its sweet f**king time opening.
? text messages that won’t send..”message not sent” has never came up more than it does on the G1.
Initially you couldn’t even save MMS message data…
The phone doesn’t have a f**king flash which is total bull shit.
The phone does not have an 1/8 inch headphone jack which is unacceptable and total f***ing bull shit.
Now… 1st phone the F key only worked on average 6 out of 10 times pressed.
2nd phone the keyboard felt TOTALLY different than any of the 5 I’ve had so far which points to the total inconsistancy of product creation quality AND it had a blow mic so nobody could hear me talking.
3rd phone…. I honestly don’t even remember what the issue was with this one…. I’ve had so many and they’ve come and gone so fast…. it pisses me off beyond belief.
4th phone made a poping noise when I activated blu-tooth and also had a dead pixel on the LCD. The phone after the poping got worse every hour until it was totally non-funtional and would not turn on.
5th phone obviously has a memory issue because it lags heavily between opening and closing applications. And NO its not from having too many apps installed. I only have a couple on here and I have 46mb if free onboard memory left. It takes between 5-8 sec for the desktop icons to appear after closing mail or text or browser. And the same happens when opening. 5-8 sec before anything in the applications show up.
I know someone else with a G1 (she’s about to be on her 3rd one) and she does not have the lag time and has far less available memory and the same apps that I have.
Another issue with this phone is placing a call…. it takes between 4-10 sec before it even goes through and starts ringing. Sometimes it just doesn’t go through. And this is NOT because of my location. I live in a big city with 3G and have NEVER had these issues with my old BlackBerry.
BOTTOM LINE: THIS PHONE IS GARBAGE and should have been free considdering its obviously NEVER left the beta stage and the hardware is total outdated junk. Also, Tmobile clearly has NO idea about how to “refurbish” these phones to make them funktional.
I HATE this phone more than I’ve ever hated a device of any kind in my life. The software aspect is decent and shows promise but…. this phone was pushed out at least 2 years too soon just to turn a quick profit. If I could shoot all those responsible, again, I would trust me. I wish I could I honestly do… but, I guess when you have kids you can’t really go around murdering corporate execs out of vengence. I’m on my last thread with this damn phone though and my patience is wearing VERY thin.

April 13th, 2009 at 8:43 am
G1- Gets hot too fast if you talk for a while.
Camera is a piece of junk…downloading Snap-photo helps some but pictues still take suuuuuper slow, always dark, always blurry and always “stabilizing” (whatever that is)
NO video recorder application even in the android market
On my first G1 the call send button dropped calls during call waiting/ swapping
no way to text without opening keypad (using the touch keypad and t9 input)
no flash player to play a lot of online video
GPS is never quite accurate…always 2 blocks off
its heavy and bulky…doesnt fit easily into jeans pockets
my music files arent always recognized by the phone
data plan is really expensive 25 or 35? (D@*n!!)
And of course the Battery life which is more fleeting than a soap bubble
But there are things to like about the phone
touch screen with trackball and qwerty keyboard
GPS
Android market applications (used to be all free, now they’re charging–thats lame but whatever)
google seems to find a new way to help organize (and infiltrate) my life every week…maps (with street view), search and voice activated search, goog-411 and GOOGL search texts, Locater, emails straight to my phone even in no coverage areas…
Now if they can just get on that AT&T underground network we’d be in business…
April 17th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
Yeah Robin i’m with ya we should report this to the FTC. I had the G1 for 3 months now and i just got my 3rd warranty exchange thru T-mobile. 1st time it stopped charging… 2nd time it constantly kept giving me a white screen so i had to take out the battery constantly.and the 3rd time the receiver speaker blew out… really cheap phone I’m planning to sell it now because i’m still having issues THIS TIME with static and all my received text messages are from “anonymous” …unbelievable!
April 21st, 2009 at 3:26 pm
got G1 2 weeks ago
- 9 days to get internet up
- phone reboots
- bluetooth loses pairing with my car for no reason (even my dash worked fine)
- today, could not make a damn phone call for a few minutes. happened after 1) incoming call from tmobile@home voicemail 2) called back home phone 3) called another number in contacts, no answer. then phone would not dial anyone. Press contact, press dial number; phone goes back to contacts. Good thing it wasn’t a 911 call.
- apps constantly have to force close; just like a windows box.
- fingers are to large, always end up pressing wrong contact.
- not a phone for business
April 22nd, 2009 at 7:08 am
anyone had the problem where when u get a phone call you can not answer the phone? none of the buttons work other then the end button. also when ending a call it would take around 30 or more seconds to end the call. once again none of the buttons work to end the call even when i press menu and try ending the phone like that. the first problem happens often but the second one only happed a few time since i had the phone. when called CS about it, no surprise but they had NO CLUE…………
April 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
when ever i try to delete all of my threads my phone freezes so i take out the battery and put back in and turn it back on and all of my messages r still there its really annoyng
May 2nd, 2009 at 8:08 pm
I have the issue with the phone not answering too. It really irritates me. The battery life sucks but with all the things that this phone does, it does not surprise me at all.
May 6th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
The phone has been working fine overall. I’ve had it since the day it came out in October. But now my pictures have erased from my SD card. My music is still all there but my pictures gone! I was sooo pissed. So then I took new pics thinking maybe I did something to cause it. And in a couple days some pictures were gone. Why is it doing this? Then I tried taking off and putting the SD card back in and nothing. I also synced it with my computer to see if I can find the picture files……….no use they are permanently GONE! Anybody know why this is happening?
May 9th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Why won’t my phone consistently chime or vibrate when I get a text message? Whether it’s open or closed, I don’t get alerted of texts. Why is this? It’s driving me crazy!
Thanks guys
May 11th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
All weekend long my phone would stop taking or allowing me to make calls, no texts in or out, no internet. This went on and off the whole weekend. At times the calls could come in but not be made, same for texts. I had to switch it over to use only 2G networks to get it to at least let me make and receive calls. This allowed me to get my phone to work with the texts, etc. I know that the Cupcake upgrade is supposed to start this month (May). Could this be why it’s so buggy? Is anyone else having problems? I am out of Los Angeles.
May 14th, 2009 at 10:00 am
So I was one of the origanal pre-orders of the g1 phone. It has been working generally good for me dispite multiples error messages for the texting & shuting off on it own & the slow catch up when u try to go to different functions. The new promblem I am getting is error message with my SD card asking me to insert one when using camera & not showing my pictures in album show icon w envelope w/ an x. So I restart the phone is fine but does the same thing & take out SD card put it back in is fine so I think this phone in long run will shut down I now want a new phone & do not love this phone no more
May 14th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
My G1 constantly reboots while charging, and rarely while in pocket. I had the unit replaced, bought a new battery, tried 3 differetn charges. Started happening after a few months but I think i’m losing my mind. It did it right after I got the new unit from tmobile.! The only thing I haven’t replaced is the sim CARD and my house’s electrical wirign.
May 14th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
I have had my g1 phone for about 2 weeks now I have had only problems mainly with battery life like everyone else and have done everything to improve it but it doesn’t help still whaatever I also had the error sms message the first day and had to restart the phone but haven’t had problems since today though my internet has been cutting out on and off and now doesn’t work it won’t let me call out sometimes too I read online today that google was having problems I thought that might have something to do with it but its with my 3g and I’ve never had a problem and wifi works I’ve tryed rebooting it and using 2g but neither works its really irritating when I pay 35 bucks for internet that won’t work hope they fix it soon

In addition to the battery issues and the phone heating up while you’re on a call, my phone actually leaves my ears ringing and hurting. I thought it was just me. I let a friend use it to make a few calls and he said that it made his ear and jaw hurt. I don’t know if it is RF radiation or the fact that you cannot turn down the volume enough.

Ok so i have had the g1 now for 5 months (think i got it when it was first released) and have had to send it off today as it wont let me connect calls to people and also wont send texts when i want it to. The text thing has always happened, it says text not sent so i retry and after about 4 times of it doing that it sends the same text 5 times (luckily i have unlimited texts) and now when i took it instore to fix we found out if you save contacts to the phone you cannot transfer them to the sim (what is up with that)
May 22nd, 2009 at 8:33 pm
i just bought it and have connection to internet but cant send any messages and cant log in aim or msn or yahoo says some problems with funds but i activated the plan ???

Just turned my phone on this morning and it appeared that I had a “colourful screen of death” kind of like when your computer goes crazy. Kept pressing the on/off/ Nothing. Removed the battery then back in. Back to normal but this freaked me out. Anybody know why this happened? Cheersssss.

Also now when I use the Maps V3.0 I can not find my location with using Satellite GSP. Before we could still use it and it would give us a 10 mile radius of where we where. What can I do to fix it ?

well first i love the phone. but since i got the phone i have been having multiples of problem with it. so i had about the new update i was happy and i updated my phone but that was the worst mistake i have ever did. cause now i cant even use my phone for 5m and the phone will restart by it self. and when it dose that it will show you the T mobile G1, but that screen last for 1hr and more if i did not open the back and take the batters out and put it back in. the same thing happens if i move my phone around. i regret ever getting this phone the worst phone of the year.
June 15th, 2009 at 10:00 am
My G1 screen went blank on yesterday, and has been acting crazy since the last update. It cannot find my SD card and has frozen screen. I so ready to leave T-Mobile and go to ATT. Also, this is my 4th G1 phone. I think they keep sending me the same phone.
June 16th, 2009 at 7:14 am
okay so i’ve had my g1 for a few months. aside from the regular problems im used to, (battery life sucks, everything force closing all the time, the phone being slow, etc..) 1. im not getting all my messages, and it happens ALL THE TIME. People will call me and tell me they sent me messages i never even received, or they wouldn’t receive mine. It is SUPER annoying. Called tmobile and they said it might be my sim card. Then after a while it stopped happening. Now, it started again. 2. every time i turn my phone off it sends random messages to people, messages that i sent to them weeks before while the phone is off, and its lot of them, like 6 or 7 messages. that can get annoying to people and myself. 3. i turned my phone off last night and tried to turn it back on, it kept getting stuck on the “android” screen. i took the battery, sim card out, put em back in, same thing happens. IT STAYED LIKE THAT from about 1-8am !!! it’ll only turn on w.o my sim card. help??

I switched from the blackberry curve to the g1 and am mostly happy, it is not the most mature platform and the battery life is a joke however it fulfills its core mission of providing a usuable keyboard and non squinty screen. If you are more interested in a usuable phone and camera then stay with the curve, if you want a pda with a touch screen and 3g to boot then the g1 wins no contest. The blackberry hardware fells much better engineered, think bmw compared to an economy car. To get access to the battery on the G1 you have to split the back case and it feels so flimsy that you cant believe it wont break. The blackberry hardware has beautiful glass covering the camera and flip top phones like the old treo are mechanically prone to failure. I still love having the dedicated keyboard of the g1 and the extra screen space so I wish they had kept the keyboard for the g2. Iin summation blackberry curve has an unusable keyboard and the screen will make you blind after doing any heavy surfing. I wish tmobile had carried one of the bigger blackberrys as the curve in my oppinion is for people that need a very small phone and do ocassional surfing. One more point is the open platform os of the g1 means frequent bug fixes and community support so if you have problems you are not stuck with only the vendor providing a sollution.
June 17th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
Whenever a call comes threw it comes in as unknown even if there numbrr is in my contacts. What should I do?
June 18th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
I have a problem with my G1. Everytime my friends send me a text message, it does not appear in order. :For example on the G1 it would normally show like this:
Me:Hello
Friend:hello
Me:good Bye
Friend:good Bye
This way i know what was the last thing my friend or I sent.
But on my G1 phone it shows the message like this:
Friend:Hello
Friend:Goog Bye
Me:hello
Me:Good bye
If somebody could figure out what is going on with my phone and let me know how i can fix it.
Thanks

I got the new update about a month ago, and since i got it Ive been having some problems. The first week I got the update I was on the phone with customer care everyday asking them to help me with the problem, and everytime they told me something else to fix it, and everytime it did work but then it kept on happening again. The problem is that my phone would be performing at normal speed and then suddenly slow down very slow like in slow motion. It was very annoying. Then after a few days when it was doing this it started to speed up and work like normal and then slow down again, and it did this constantly. Then it stopped for a while and about 3 weeks later when the poblems stopped, today it started up again. Not only does it slow down and speed up but it automatically reastarts on me and it will restart like every 5 minutes. It is very frustrating and I hope its not my phone, I hope it is atleast the new update and I hope they fix it.
by the way is anybody else having this problem?
June 26th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
So I got the G1, and it has been three weeks or do since I’ve had it and today i has decided to not go into stand by mode anymore. It is fun to have, but I should have known better than to buy a 1st generation phone.
June 29th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Hi I got the G1 phone and so far I’ve had it for about 6 months and I loved it easily, but there are a couple problems. First off the battery power doesn’t last as long as I had hope. I looked on the internet for a battery upgrade but it only will make the phone so much more bulkiar which the slimness is one of my favorite aspects of the phone. SECOND and the most annoying problem is the sliding. I think the sliding is an awesome aspect to the phone- that is untill it breaks.. the delicate screw in the back came unloose somehow and I don’t know what caused it it just happened one day and now the screw is just all over the place. When I close it, it scratches up the keys on the keyboard and it totally scratched up the back of the phone. I went to the T-mobile store and they said that I could either hire someone to fix it, or I could use my insurance to buy a completely new G1 phone ($160). Has this happened to anyone else?
June 30th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
So my phone just died today. It just turned off and won’t come back on. WTF? Has this happened to anyone else?

had my G1 for just under 2 months. ITS works OK does what i want when i when want. but i noticed something yesterday so rang Tmobile. was told they dont exchange faulty phones after 7 days. I’m not sure if this is outside trading standards rules or not bit in the first 6 months in england you dont have to prove the fault and like everything you buy in the england you have 6 years from date of purchase to demand a repair if its deemed the part or item wore out before its expected life cycle. well i call under 2 months just this. i had to drive all the way to the t mobile shop in the end ( virgin replace and pick up faulty phones within 24hrs if under 12 months old) T mobile gave me a scummy dirty phone to use while they send my phone away for repair. What has happened to my phone is plain to see. the only way for it to have caused by me th e useer would show other damaged on the phone. A crack has formned between the menu button and back button on the phone. My phone has never dropped and never lent on or not misused infact the guy in the shop stated it looks like its been well looked after without any other marks anywhere on it. ijust dont see why they do not replace faulty handsets. if i was tied into a contact i would tell em to stick it as it seems unfair i might have wait upto 30 days to get my phone back and to add insult the guy in the shop said i might be charged. T mobile for all there advertising are nothing more than money grabbers. I never caused the fault . but it seems T mobile hold the customer responsible for all faults unless there experts say different. Now as they have the phone and if they replace the case thereis no way i can prove the fault was inherent as i cant see them sending the case back to me . i fel rip off and that in no way have they been the caring comapnt they say they are. So if anyone has or gets a crack between the menu button and back button ( which is a place you could not really break your self with out showing other damage)please note it on here . it could be a weak point on the phone . T mobile in the UK at the moment suck, while everything works and you get on with things great but as soon as you need them they change .
July 3rd, 2009 at 2:51 am
i meant if i was not tied into a contract then i would call it a day .
July 4th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
okay well my neice was playing with my G1 and entered the incorrect unlock pattern several times, then hit the “forgot password” button, which now requires me to enter my gmail account info which i cannot remember, there should be an option where i can just go back and enter my pattern because i can remember that, so what do i do now because i am locked out of my phone and completely frustrated. i honestly cannot even remember if i even set up my gmail account when i first got the phone.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:14 am

I have a list of issues I need help resolving:
1. Sometimes when I dial VM to retriev messages, I actally am hearing my own message! So confused on this one!
2. I figured out how to add icons to the ‘desktop’ screen, but I am unable to delete the ones I don’t want. Tried directions in ‘user manual’…. this does not work for me.
3. USB phone to computer - cannot get computer to ’see’ my phone.
4. Add contact to phone, later it will have disappeared…. How do I keep this from happening?
5. Tech Support sent directions for Factory Data Reset, with a sentance ‘Backup All Necessary Data on Internal Memory’. *This statement should have been BOLD or somehow made more prominent…. **For all those trying to get rid of unwanted Txt or sms, this is the way to go, as is deletes Everything (although, she did say that contacts would not be affected as they are a part of Gmail…. Only have 1/2 of contacts I had before doing this, and now any contacts added seem to disappear as well!)
Can anyone help me with this backup, as I have tried doing this previously, but it did not seem to work.
6. Plug phone in to charge. Seems to work ok as long as phone stays on. If I shut phone off to charge, it starts making a clicking sound (almost like a capacitor charge/discharge tic tic tic in succession.) She said she thinks I may need a replacement phone, which a dread - especially after reading list of ongoing issues… *BTW, is there any sort of ‘Lemon Law’ if item fails after 3X, then refund or something?
7. Intermittant- phone never rings, just goes to VM….
8. I had an app that gave notification for cell signal loss/restore. Phone sitting on counter charging, it would all of a sudden notify signal loss, then shortly after it would signal that it was restored, but then off and on. Then it would be ‘happy/quiet for a while then (hours, or a day later) it would say signal in and out like crazy again… No apparent reason for this to happen. Any ideas?
9. Even with 2 bars, choppy/hard to understand conversations! Is this phone issue, signal issue or aliens?
10. After talking to tech Support - literally all day, the next morning, I had No G3 Icon at all. I usually had Icon even w/no service… where did it go? Did I just piss off the t-mobile icon dude?
I ended up going int settings and set it up for G2. That worked to at least let me use the phone.
11. I was told by TS that I need to remove battery at least once per week! OMG. Can u say PITA?! Take off protector, then fight/swear at plastic cover is Not on my list of things I want to do with my remaining time on earth! If this is the case, they need to design an easy access/push button release or a slide off back cover or something. Do people with the iPhone or other internet capable phones have to jump through these hoops just to keep their phone useable? I have not heard of this from anyone else….
12. Other t-mobile issues: billing - have to pay now ‘for detailed bill’.
*I cannot save the online bills as I do not have excel….. Need options for those of us who don’t have specific program needed.
13. When buying G1, I was told that have to have phone plan, but data etc were all ‘options and could be turned on and off as needed. Found out the other day that this is Not true for G1. Not a good way to find out the realities.
*I don’t have the knowledge or experience to use this phone to it’s full potential. Things seem to work most of the time, but I too have had issues with ‘upgrades’ and talks with tech support soon after. ‘Don’t fix what ain’t broke’. I am sure there r reasons for the upgrades, but, it bites when, to fix one thing, you create 5 more ‘problems’. Seems to me, the programmers are creating their own jobs… Am I close on that Steve Jobs? 1-15-09.
Went on cross country trip recently. Maps was helpful for me in a number of instances. *Because of battery issue, I got an Inverter as well for phone and laptop if needed.
I had lots of cool free apps I all gone now since factory reboot… DOH!
Anyone have an in with the Attny General or consumer advocates on how to get big business to ‘Man Up’? Just one of many a sad state of affairs in our world.
*a side note: go to youtube and type in cell phone tapping - one of the things mentied was excessive battery heat and use, as well as noise etc…..
July 15th, 2009 at 12:14 pm
Ok, so my g1s light is blinking indicating low battery. so i hit the end button and it starts to turn on… but instead of a black backround it was white and had a lot of colored pixels. i hurry up and take the battery out, wait a while, then put it back in. I power back up the g1, the touchscreen wont work, non responsive, dead. I did a hard reset on the phone and now im at the “tap android to begin” part. Well i cant tap the blasted little thing cause the touchscreen doesnt work. clicking in the trackball doesnt work. i bought the phone 3rd party and do not have warranty. I called htc to do an out of warranty repair. $183 to fix it not including shipping and all the other stuff they charge for. I paid $185 for the phone then $30 for unlock code. so its not worth it i just want my beloved phone back… Please help!

July 27th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
So I love new electronics, so being the impulsive buyer that I am as soon as I was able to buy the new g1 at the tmobile nearest me I did. I brought the black g1 one month after it had been on the market. I fell in love with the g1 it was the perfect phone… it did everything with ease… so as u can imagine when I lost my pride and joy two months ago I was more than upsett. I went straight to my tmobile store and brought the white version. Here is where the problems started. My internet was always foreclosing. And it was slower than my previous baby. So I took it back to the store and returned the extremely over priced piece of junk… this month after feening for the android again I purchased the white version a second time… big mistake not only can I not register my yahoo email account on this one I can hardly view a full webpage in one sitting. Sometimes my touch screen doesn’t respond to my finger and the phone will freeze at its own will!!! Tmobile and google need to figure something out QUICK!!
July 29th, 2009 at 1:28 am
I am on my 3rd phone now.
i have had several problems
such as update problems affecting the memory card
then my camera freezing
and now im gettin a third one because
first my front screen wasnt working and
then a few hours later it was just black
and the only screen that would work was if i flipped it open
then another day goes by and both screens keep staying black but work occasionally
now the 4th day the screen is completely black.
i have not dropped or mishandled this phone at all.
i think they should just take back the G1 and replace everyones with the g2 cause theyre just spending more money replacing the broken g1s
July 29th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Yeah, the battery life sucks on this phone. I love the phone to death but aaah! They have an extended life battery but have you seen that sucker… check out this link http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/01/15/gigantic-g1-extended-battery-more-than-doubles-battery-life/

August 4th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
I receive text messages, but once I get them the old conversations that I have just delete on their own. Help please !!!!
August 12th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Im on my 3rd phone as well…problems include keyboard texting gibberish, phone wont charge, or with a full charge powers down and blinks red randomly. Ive had to take the back cover off 4-5 times a day and play with the battery and sim cd to get it to charge and stay on. The last replacement phone I received charged for two hrs and then died completely. T Mobile apparently thinks its “inconvenient”, but an expected feature of a very overpriced phone. I dont know if they are sending me refurbished garbage phones, but there should be a refund after 3 defective phones. Has anyone had any luck with HTC?
August 13th, 2009 at 7:13 am
I love my g1 phone but the main problem I have is uploading images to websites..it won’t let me!! It keeps saying “uploads disabled”…I’m tryin to find an app, but no luck..who can help me fix this massive problem??

August 27th, 2009 at 12:48 am
I got ta say, buying this phone is the best desicion I have ever made in my entire life. The OS is awesome and the apps makes everyday life easier….. without my g1, I would be a total mess…. only one HUGE problem. BATTERY LIFE! Battery life rally dissapoints me because the phone shuts down after just a few, few, few hours. I don’t know how to solve this issue. And when I watch too many youtube videos…. the phone gets incredibly hot to the point where it burns your hands
August 28th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
A lot of these comments sound like hardware related issues, and not OS related. This would be the fault of the hardware manufacturer - HTC, and not Google or T-Mobile.
However, due to contracts and such - T-Mobile gets the sticky job of dealing with all the complaints! Wait till Android hits the other phones and gets away from HTC - I’m sure it’ll be great from there on out.

When I first got my g1,
It says it can’t establish a reliable data connection to the server.

Hi There,
I am having problems with my phone, brand new… and it will not send out text msgs. I can get the msgs, but the phone doesnt allow me to respond… HELP…. what can I do?
September 4th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
I’ve had it a few weeks on contract, i’m going back to t-mobile and asking for a different phone as its far to unreliable. It heats up, and not just warm, but a fairly uncomfortable heat. The battery life is amongst the poorest I have every came across. My two year old Samsung last longer. The screen crashes sometimes, and it can random lose signal for hours at a time. I would not reccomend this phone to anyone. And I hope that T-Mobile are understanding and can offer my a different phone altogether.

After browsing online for new apps/updates on G1 ran into this site…. Lets begin with this… If your complain is about call quality/dropped calls/static, research the issue before complaining about the phone… put the sim into a different phone and see how it works. I work for a wireless company and the actual device is the LAST thing we troubleshoot because its tops 5 percent of the problems customers have. This site is supposed be for solving problems together, not to come complain. I see people on here who complain about not remembering their gmail information when locked out of the phone… seriously … your blaming the phones security features instead of your own issues with remembering passwords? Its like saying guns kill people. People kill people. learn to place blame where it belongs. The battery life… ok… so you go out to get a phone that can do SOOO many more things a normal phone can do… yet you complain battery doesn’t last. Go get a phone that can only make calls, and there you go. problem solved. Your phone is laggy… the phone is designed to keep running any apps you pull up… so download any one of the many process killers in the market. Have had the phone for months with no real lag issues. occasional app force close, but its an app issue which comes with the territory of allowing anyone to use the open source code and make their own apps. Its like a computer. Sometimes you have to do maintenance on it. Screen gone all black? Perhaps you are totally right and just call ccare and tell them to get you the warranty department. All phones have a 1 year manufacturer warranty… to the lady who complains about master reset and not really being told it wipes your phone… what do you think master reset means? Have you really not owned a phone before? Pretty much all phones have that option. the list goes on and on and on… stop blaming the phone for your mistakes… stop blaming the phone for network problems.

I got the G1 and it’s just fine. Battery life isn’t all that great.. Too many text messages..you really can’t delete. Also, this happens to only one person that calls me but when that person calls, my phones starts to ring, then it hangs up then .5 seconds later, my phones starts to ring again and it rings completely…does this happen to anyone? I also asked that person if the phone stops ringing when they call me at first but they say no…Any answers?

Got the G1 in April, after 3 months it just died, rep said oh, that happens and I got a replacement. Have had the replacement for another 3 months and guess what, it died again. T-mobile customer service extremely unhelpful, rude. The problem was escalated up to two supervisors who would only say we’ll send you another G1. Frankly, I don’t have the time in my life to update and re-program this piece of junk. Customer service told me that if I wanted a “regular phone” that would be considered an upgrade and I’m stuck paying over $200.00 for a truly inferior product, plus to buy a new one. Are you listening? I have been a T-Mobile customer for over 5 years, but this could possibly be my last day with them.

I was talking to my bf on the phone.. then all of a sudden my phone hangs up.. then he texts me saying why hung up on him. Then I said I didn’t and tried calling him back. When I called him back it took me straight to voicemail it didn’t ring.. not even once. And his phone wasn’t off eighter because he was texting me. And when he called me he was experiencing the same problem.

hey my phone is stuck on the unpacking file screen, and when i turn it off and hole home+power i get the same screen. and i cant reset it, how can i fix this?
October 22nd, 2009 at 4:48 am
I received a notification on my G1 two days ago telling me to install a system update which I did. After the install everything on my screen vanished and I had to create all new shortcuts. I charged my phone overnight last night and now my battery is about to die, it should still be full! The section of the phone where the rollerball, menu and home buttons are is really hot so I don’t know what is going on. I have installed these installs before and it has always been fine.
Is anyone else having this issue?
October 23rd, 2009 at 8:05 am
Hi everyone,
After a recent update of the Android system (such events happen occasionally - I always accept those updates and I never had problems) I suddenly have application problems. The music player doesn’t start anymore, which sucks of course. ‘android.process.media suddenly shut down’ or ‘App Music (in process com.android.music) does not respond’) are messages I keep getting.
Does anyone have the same experience? And who should I contact regarding this problem? These updates are sent out by Google, I assume?
Thanks

This phone is awesome, stable, good call quality. Battery life fine with me as I do usually 10-15 SMS, 2-3 calls for 30 min max and browsing for 30 mins. SMS sending was problem that I’ve solved but it appeared again
I’m just looking how to solve it

Hi every one,
Once I had updated my phone a few weeks ago, and it went bonkers! Videos wouldn’t play, some of the buttons stopped working, the pattern lock stopped working etc.
Having looked at other blogs, I was advised to do a factory reset (under the settings section). And it worked! I am now able to do the initial functions, watch videos ect. I lost most of my free downloads, but the ones I paid for was still there. Luckily my contacts remained.
Hope dis helps!

I had trouble with my G1 recently. First it would randomly and i would have to plug charger in to use it for alittle (it was worse when fully charged). Then it shut off and when turned on it went to ANDROID screen and stays for about 2 minutes then a dark lite up screen so its a dark blue screen and does nothing else. I figured it was the battery since i had the phone since the G1 has been out and we all know the battery sucks and i use it like its my life lol. So i figured it was the battery so i bought a new one on ebay(exact same one for $4.95and no shipping) from a buyer in japan so it took 12 days to get here. When i charged the phone with the new battery and tried to turn it on it did the same thing. I google searched what could be the problem and i seen a post about resetting the phone (soft&hard)..i tried the hard since that was the only option for me and it worked :). if other ppl are having this problem and want to know how to do it here it is
Hard Rest HTC G1:
1) Turn off the Phone
2) Press HOME + POWER KEYS (keep them holding for about 25 secs)
until you see a screen with a phone and a triangle.
then
3) SLIDE YOUR KEYBOARD TO OPEN IT
4) press ALT + l ( TO SHOW YOU OPTIONS)(when i tried it didnt work the first 2 times. on the 3rd try i did it acouple times and i think it worked when i held them..so dont give up on this part)
5) Press ALT + W ( TO FORMAT ALL DATA)

ok,well for the first week or so its the percfect phone for texting. My friend had the exact same phone and didnt like as much anymore cause he kept gettting his own text messeges back to himself.Mine didnt do that yet,and i was worried. Now when your texting and you go to the menu screen it instantly goes on the google site and stars typing in periods like the writing kind…..like that.I put menu to go to the screen and it does the same thing..Another thing is that when your texting and you press a certain letter on the key board it goes to something different..like if u press the letter “u”it takes you to the texting menu..I still need to find more problems with it but i hope not!!!

Have had my G1 since feb. and I freaking love this phone, sometimes if i have to many apps the phone slows down and then i have to factory reset it, but i get to keep all my contacts and thats no big deal… on a worse note, the other day i tried to turn off the phone so i could go into a meeting and when i tried to turn the phone back on it got to the android loading screen then the screen went black, but i can tell it is still on, if i try to charge it, the battery heats up like crazy and it feels like it is going to catch fire… Im at a loss for what to do, because i have to leave town for a few weeks and I’m not sure if they will give me a new one in time. Im really mad.
Admin Said - Good luck! It sounds like your has lasted longer than most.

Hello,
Okay of course I purchased the G1 from a t-mobile store, shortly after the store closed. The owner passed away. I love the phone to every aspect except one thing, the earspeaker must have blown out or something. I went to a different t-mobile store hoping to exchange it for a new one and they said there was no proof I actually bought the phone and insisted I stole it. I had bought it referbished so I think that may be my problem. But I would really like to get it fixed because I do so much online work with the phone and the one that I have in the mean time is just a little cheepy one. I wanted to know if I could send it back to android and they could fix it for me or maybe some one can tell me where I can go to get it fixed. I really would appriciate it. It is not just my social phone but my work phone and I can’t take work calls on speaker. If any one knows how I may fix this problem I would love the help. Thank you! =]

So everyone is posting their problems here but where are the solutions?
Admin Said - If you actually read the comments here you will find many possible solutions to common problems. However, the best solution seems to be to get a different phone that isn’t plauged with problems.

I’ve had my G-1 for about 7 or so months now. It’s always treated me pretty well, but recently when I try to load myspace mobile, facebook, or google images it doesn’t load, or even give me a sign that it’s trying to go there.
And as of today, I can’t send text messages very well while having full service.
Anyone else have that problem, or a solution to the problem?

I am about to receive my fourth G1 phone, all previous ones having been replaced under warranty. No end of problems and I can’t rely on it so I don’t have the courage to retire my old style phone. Most unhappy.
February 19th, 2010 at 11:01 pm
I’m on my 3rd G1 now. With the last one, it kept resetting itself for no reason. T-mobile decided that wasn’t a warranty problem and was probably my fault. Just 4 minutes ago I was on the internet messing around and all of the sudden the phone shuts off. I tried pulling the battery and letting it reset, but when I try to turn it back on the red light just blinks and it doesn’t even TRY to turn back on. I wouldn’t have as many concerns about this if there had been less than half battery life left. I’ve had this phone for 4 months.

Hi, my phone has been good for about 1 1/2 years. Like PERFECT.
Until recently my phone started to get less and less battery life.
Now it shuts down once it gets about 30% or if i open up Browser or use an App.
This has bbeen really annoying. It does turn back on but only to display The ANDROID page and blink a red light then shut off. If i wait about 20 mins-1 hour my phone can be turned on with about 50% battery life.
I have no idea what this is lol. I hope someoen can help me =D

Hi,
I got the g1 yesterday and exchanged it with my cousin with my previous phone the N96,let’s just say this phone has it advantages and its major disadvantages,
First of all, I love the qwerty keyboard except it does get hard to type (depending on the pace of speed you type!) as you are grasping the phone at the same time.
But I must say this phone has a lot of disadvantages that overshadows its good features for instance;
the gallery doesn’t have any editing features to edit yout pictures (I had to download photoshop for the g1, which btw the g1 doesn’t allow you to download some apps)
The screen freezes and always says “error”
the phone vibration strength is poor (you can’t feel it when its in your pocket or bag)
The bluetooth is absolute sh*t!! (Major f*ck up of the manufacturers) I have multiple friends with the g1 and all their phone bluetooth does NOT work!
The 3G signal strength is weak and tends to make the internet slow.
And also, the loudspeaker (ringtone, tones, etc) does NOT WORK AT ALL!!
Anybody know the solution to get the loudspeaker and bluetooth to work?
Thanks.
March 30th, 2010 at 12:00 pm
I got this phone last week, and I’m quite disappointed with all the bad reviews about this phone,as I am having second thoughts and maybe regretting purchasing
this phone???!
The mouse is reallllyy annoying and when your using it on the internet, it goes back & forth and scrolls up & down between websites!!
The touch screen can be agitating to use and it frequently freezes.
The sound and bluetooth doesn’t work at all and a massive defect with this phone.
Also, the plastic covering on the phone makes the g1 look unattractive and does it have am radio?
The keyboard doesn’t have any direction arrows which is really needed as the mouse is really really ( an I can’t stress enough!) REALLY ANNOYING especially when your typing in notes or documents.
Can any1 tell me how to get my bluetooth 2 work?
Thanks…
March 30th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
The battery life dies like crazy, I’m always having to recharge it every 2hours!
and the bluetooth never works and nor does ther loudspeaker for ringtones, and other audio tones etc, does anyone know how to fix this??
Thanks.

I just recently got G1, and when I try to use the camera I get a error message where I have to force close the app. How do I resolve this?
April 1st, 2010 at 12:00 pm
anybody know how to remove contacts from the ‘favorites’ list as it automatically selects contacts that you only called a few times or accidentally just dialed??
i tried everything, and yes, i even deselected the star (which is not even yellow, but just tried for the sake of trying!)
but contacts are still in favorite lists.
also, the speaker doesn’t work, so i cant hear it ringing, anybody know why & the bluetooth it always say ‘unable to connect’??? arrgh soo annoying!!
any help and suggestions appreciated.thnx.
April 3rd, 2010 at 2:23 am
for everyone having trouble with battery…this will help! What happens is when you are on any of the apps on the phone such as a game for example, when you shut that game down and go to homepage the game will still run in the background therefore running the battery down quicker.
What you can do to help this is download an app off the market called Es task manager, this will kill all of the running applications that continue to run in the background and save your battery life :).
April 3rd, 2010 at 2:27 am
Sali: The bluetooth on the phone does not connect to any other phones, only bluetooth headsets which is silly but still.
You can download an app called Bluetooth file transfer which allows you to connect to other phones, this apps free.
April 12th, 2010 at 10:50 am
This is how you fix SD card has unexpectedly been removed for the G1. hold your G1 vertically and open the keyboard, keeping the same orientation. On the bottom left side there is a latch to open where the SD card is. Open that latch, push in the SD card until you get a click, and your all done

I have been having a problem in which I cannot send messages to specific people. When I send the message a warning comes up saying the message wasn’t able to be sent. The odd thing is that this happens hew i have 2-4 bars which should be more that enough. This only happens with 2 of my contacts. How can I prevent this?
April 14th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
my G1 was working perfectly for over a year. It’s screen is cracked and has been cracked for over a year but it still worked perfectly. A few days ago it started acting up and if i hit the W, R, E, T, Call and Home buttons, it locks me out of my phone. i restored my whole phone thinking it was a software problem or an app i downloaded caused it to mess up. When i started from the beginning as i was signing into Google, my e-mail contains “R” so when i pressed the key it moved the typing cursor all the way to the beginning of the text box infront of the rest of the e-mail i typed. It doesn’t lock me out anymore but it takes me to the beginning of my text.
I’m able to use the touch screen keyboard but since my screen is cracked its hard for me at times because my phone doesnt feel the touch at times.
please help.. e-mail bijanrules@gmail.com
thank you

i have never had any problems with the g1 untill last night i was out and my it died i got home pluged it in and turned it on it has been a lit up black screen ever since i need help!!!!!
April 19th, 2010 at 10:53 pm
On my G1 currently, and haven’t had to many problems with it. (Had it since November)
However! The problems I do have are extremely annoying. As mentioned before, battery life sucks. My phone spends more time on the charger then it does in my pocket. I’ve downloaded Task Killer but it often freezes and force closes. Problem 2. Ghost calls. My phone will freeze up and act like I’m getting an incoming call, rings, vibrates, screen pops up with no number or anything. Just that little picture and “incoming”. Also no missed calls in my call log. Browser also randomly closes, surprised it hasn’t closed since I’ve been typing this. Lags for a few seconds when I get a call, can’t see who’s calling. And that’s about it. For some reason I still love the phone though. But thankfully I’m getting rid of it soon!

Hello every body i’m usin’ my gphone for 3 months well. but my brother reseted it now i’m configuring network connenction as i know and enterin’ my gmail acount but it says “connection problem” but i know there is no connection problem. what should i do????
April 21st, 2010 at 9:49 am
I’ve had my g1 for almost a year now, and its a great phone. But i used the pattern unlocking application to keep people out of my phone. One time the touch screen was on in my pocket, and when i went to go into my phone it said too many patterns and asked me to sign into my gmail. I thought this was no problem, because i had to sign in before and everything was fine. However this time, i every time i tried to sign in, it said invalid username or password. The thing is, i can sign into gmail on the computer with that username and password. Needless to say i was annoyed. I tried just the user name n the username with @gmail.com n @googlemail.com… then i stumbled upon “the only way to fix this” it was the factory reset, which deletes everything on your phone. After more searching, i figured there was no other way and did the factory reset. However now after i start up the phone, it freezes at a black screen after the android logo… anyone know how to fix either of these problems?

okay so i have had my G1 for about 5 months now and i loved it upuntil now were i just want to throw it against a wall. it started out were i wasnt recieving phone calls when i was on the phone aggrivating but i didnt mind i could always call back, but as of last week the talk button and the home button just stopped working, and this phone is a pain in the ass without those 2 buttons. and if somebody calls me my phone wont ring, and it doesnt tell me i missed a phone call infact if you go into my call log it says i received the phone call and its saying i answered. the GPS isnt working either. although i can still text and and call people but its just a big hassle now.
has anyone else had this problem with there phone? please tell me im not the only one :/

okay so i got my brother’s G1 and it was working perfectly for months until recently anytime im texting/messaging, a window keeps popping up saying “Sorry! Application Messaging (in process com.android.mms) is not responding.” then underneath are two buttons, one saying “Wait” and the other saying “Force close”. i tried both and the window keeps coming over and over again. This has been a frequent problem on my G1 and its causing my messages to send really slowly or not send at all. What is the cause of this and how can i fix it?

I love my phone but for the last few months I have been getting SD errors every now and then when I boot up my phone. This means I am forced to format the SD card and reload all my media. I have lost camera pictures on several occasions because of this.
After the fifth time in four months that it did this, I got hold of another SD card. Now every time I boot up my phone I get four black and blank images in my gallery under the heading of ‘cache’.
It seems that something must be wrong with the phone itself rather than the SD card as I have tried two different ones now. I have tried a factory dada reset as well as formatting the sd cards.
Any advice or is my G1 phone broken?

My G1 doesnt want to charge. When I plug it in to charge it drains the battery faster than when its not charging. Can anyone help with that?

my g1 will not turn back on, i’ve had it for about 2 years now, and they just sent me this phone today (the insaurance company) and i will be doing something and it will not turn back on. then when i try to turn it back on it wont do it. Then I try again hours later and it still doesnt, and hours after that it finally comes back on..if its not doing that then its shutting off randomly and then it will do this about a good 3 times. then when i try to turn it back on, it wont come on at all..this happens everyday and im sick of it. I am going to call t mobile today, because i just got this phone

hi, i have an unlocked HTC G1 on the o2 network, recently the screen cracked and i took it to get repaired, once it had been repaired the phone has been restored to factory settings and it needed unlocking again so i took it to get unlocked so that my o2 simcard which previously worked fine would work again, after i had it unlocked the phone now keeps showing ‘no signal’. the signal returns for about a minute the disappears again every ten minutes and the battery runs out rapidly. my simcard works fine in other phones its just in the G that it does not work!, what could i do to get my reception to go back to normal?!

My G1 has a weird problem. When I call or get a call, the person I’m talking to on the phone can’t hear me clearly and I have to yell from my side. I hear the other person clearly though. What might be the problem and solution?
